Newmarket - Nancy-Lee "Nan" McWhinnie, 77, of Grant Road, died April 17, 2014, at Exeter Hospital.Born April 25, 1936, in Wakefield, Mass., she was the daughter of Henry L. and Agnes (Deveau) Gardiner. She was raised in Wakefield, Mass., and graduated from Our Lady of Nazareth Academy. In 1960, she moved to Newmarket.Nan worked in the Rockingham County Probate Court office and retired in 1997. For many years, she had also been a news writer for the former Newmarket Times.She was a former member and past secretary of the Robert G. Durgin American Legion Auxiliary Unit 67 in Newmarket.Survivors include her husband of 57 years, William P. McWhinnie of Newmarket; a son, Scott A. McWhinnie and his wife, Barbara, of Newmarket; two daughters, Diane R. Bateman and her husband, Wayne, of Newmarket and Joanne Winch and her husband, Eric, of Brentwood; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a very close cousin, Ruth A. Benjamin of Wakefield, Mass.
