HOOKSETT - James "Jim" Dwight Walter, PhD, 66, died May 22, 2014, after a battle with cancer. He was born in East Cleveland, Ohio, on June 19, 1947, the son of Dwight L. Walter Jr., and Stella (Sevier) Walter.

Jim earned his BA from Kent State University, his MA from Indiana State University and his PhD from Ohio State University. He came to Southern New Hampshire University in 1981. At the time of his death he was a professor of sociology. Jim was a member of the Hooksett Heritage Commission, Hooksett Conservation Commission, Kiwanis Club of Hooksett, and past president of SNHUPEA, 2008/2009.
He is survived by a sister, Barbara Dix and husband Robert; a nephew, Thomas Dix; and five nieces, Kathleen Byrd, Christine DeNucci, Kimberly Smith, Lauren Bone, and Kristin Byrd. Jim was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Lawrence Walter. A memorial celebration will be announced and held in the fall.
