MANCHESTER - James Barakis, 83, of Manchester, passed away June 24, 2014.Jim was born April 13, 1931, in Manchester, a son of Andrew and Alexandra (Tsaltas) Barakis and had been a lifelong resident of this community.Prior to retirement, Jim was an attendance officer within the Manchester School District for many years.Jim was a longtime member of Brookside Congregational Church and an active volunteer at Elliot Hospital. He very much enjoyed golf, tennis, bowling and bridge.Jim was a U.S. Air Force veteran.He was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Shirley (Essie) Barakis.Family includes two daughters, Janice Barakis of Portsmouth and Jamie Garneau and her husband, Gary, of Portsmouth; two grandsons, Jordan Garneau of Rollinsford and David Garneau of Hampton; as well as nieces and nephews.Family is very appreciative of the kindness and care Jim received from the staff at Birch Hill Terrace.
