Raymond - Mary Jo Spofford, 64, died Aug. 10, 2014, at her home in Raymond after a period of declining health. She was born Dec. 24, 1949, in Gloucester, Mass., daughter of the late Joseph S. and Kathleen E. (Fancy) Santapaola.Mary Jo grew up in Gloucester and was a graduate of Gloucester High School. She also later attended the Mansfield Beauty Academy in Salem, Mass. Mary Jo married James R. Spofford in 1970 and lived in Salem, Mass., for four years before moving to Dover, where they resided for 35 years. Mary Jo worked for the State Street Bank in Boston in the stock department doing clerical work. She was a stay-at-home mother for many years when her children were growing up. Later, she worked 22 years for Shaw's Supermarket in Dover as a cashier. Jim and Mary Jo had been residents of Raymond since 2009.Mrs. Spofford was devoted to her Christian faith. She was a former member of St. John United Methodist Church in Dover and Barrington Evangelical Free Church and a current member of United Methodist Church in Exeter.Her family fondly recalled that Mary Jo was an unbelievable cook and enjoyed sewing.She is survived by her loving husband, James Spofford; two daughters and sons-in-law, Valerie and Trevor Tilley and Christine and Steven Clark, one son and daughter-in-law, James Jr. and Krista Spofford; nine grandchildren, Dayan, Rebecca, Elizabeth, Samuel, Alan, Benjamin, Amanda, Sabrina and Aaron; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Marilyn and John Thompson, Carol and James Burke, and Nancy Bater; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Joseph and Nancy Santapaola and James and Pauline Santapaola; and many nieces and nephews..

SERVICES: Calling hours will be held on Thursday, Aug. 14, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Brewitt Funeral Home, Raymond. Funeral services will be held on Friday, Aug. 15, at 10 a.m. at United Methodist Church, Exeter.Burial will follow in the N.H.
