I met Allen @Middlebury. We would "parler" together for hours. We ate together in the cafe. We took a class together, etc. All the teachers knew we were close and where one of us was the other wasn't far away. Allen was like a best friend and a father to me. He spent hours a week on the phone with me. He had the best real life stories and always had something wonderful to say. He was always there for me when I needed someone and was esp there for me when I went through the worst period of my life. I still can't believe he is gone. We had so many plans for the future! I'm just sorry I didn't get to see him more over the last few years. He is a wonderful man and he will be terribly missed by me and everyone else whose life he touched. I don't know where I would be today without him. He greatly influenced myself and I am the person I am today due to his presence in my life. He will always hold a special place in my heart. :(

Dear Pat, Lisa, Daniel-I will be forever grateful for having known Allen. You ALL touched my life in a profound way and I'm deeply saddened by this loss. His humor and enthusiasm was a breath of fresh air to me. Oh, how I cried when Pat and Allen were no longer by bosses. I've always thought of you as family. Lise caught up to me on Facebook to report the news. My deepest sympathy to you.

I'm not even sure what to write about a man like Allen. I could say that I learned so much from him, but who didnt? I could say he was very special and kind, but if you knew Allen, you know that already. I know that he was a person that had a profound affect on my life, my career, and my beliefs. My grief is shared with the joy of at least getting to know such a wonderful man.

Pat, Lisa and Dan, my sympathies on your terrible loss.

Goodbye Allen, I will remember you in my heart and prayers

My deepest condolences to the entire Kalik family .
I attended a presentation Allen gave in Portland Maine way back in 1988. I was so impressed with what Allen was saying that I made a point of introducing myself to him and getting myself invited to visit his office. I wanted to learn more about what he was thinking.I want you all to know that meeting Allen changed the direction of my company and in turn changed my life... I was proud Allen was my friend, prouder yet that he thought of me as his friend

So sad to hear, Allen was such a vibriant, yet gentle spirit. Loved his brilliant mind, his way with people. Loved his stories in windsurfing in Aruba...loved the blizzard we had one year at executive and a bunch of us stayed overnight, continued to work through the night, he made it such fun. The world was a better place with allen in it. truly a blessed man, Pat, lisa and daniel, and the rest of kalik family my prayers are with you...blessings debbie gibson

Dear Pat,

I was so sad to hear of Allen's passing. My best wishes go out to your entire family as well as to all the people who have had the honor to know such and extrodinary man as he is. I learned so much from Allen that contributes to the job I do right now, as well as from both of you with comraderie in the work place.

My involvement in VPT was my best time in working. Even after VPT sold Lise and I worked hard to bring it as far as we could for Allen. When VPT ended it was like we were looseing a part of him and that was hard.

I think of you folks often and do wish you the best going forward.

My deepest condolences to the entire Kalik family. I'll always remember my time working for and with him at Executive Exchange as a great time!

My favorite memory of Allen is one windy spring day as I was heading down the sidewalk to come into work; he was coming towards me.

He said, "Hi there, what a beautiful day!"
I said, "Yeah, it sure is. I kind of wish I didn't have to work." I smiled.
Allen said, "Oh? What would you do if you didn't have to work today?"
I replied without hesitating, "Grab my kite from my trunk and go fly it!"
He laughed and said, "Go for it!"

He always made everyone feel instantly at ease with him and was so full of positive energy. I know he will be missed from this world.

AK – a mentor.

While we had only talked a couple of times over the last few years, I'd think of you often when involved in a difficult business decision – you seemed to navigate difficulties with the best.

I have yet to meet someone with your true love of life and all that it brings.

A favorite memory – lunch at a French Restaurant that my neighbor Pierre owned. We sit down and are making introductions, Allen rips off a series of French that startles my neighbor. I get the “WOW” look from Pierre and he then has to bring over Marceau – the Sommelier. Marceau has the quintessential French Sommelier “Haughty” accent – he can be intimidating. He speaks to Allen and Allen again speaks with clarity, knowledge, speed and a classic French accent. It takes a lot to impress Marceau, and Allen hit one out of the park. Pierre still mentions this event every now and again. As usual, Allen made quite an impression.

It was a true honor and pleasure to have worked with you and to have known you -as a friend, an employee and business partner.

You and your family have been in my prayers – I am sorry that you had to leave us.

You will be missed.

Dear Pat, Lisa and Daniel;

I have so many great memories of Allen from all the many years I have known him. His life was cut way to short. Allen was such of an inspiration to me and so many others.
I remember talking with him for hours at a time, (sometimes to Pat's dismay)
of how he thought things should work and he had so many great ideas. Allen was such a visionary and could see thru the issues and how to solve them. Allen was also a good friend outside of the business world. He would often tell us about Lisa and Daniel and what they were studying in school and what they were doing after their graduation. He was so proud of his children and rightfully so. We always looked forward to the user group meetings because our friends Pat and Allen would be there. I will always remember his humor and that big smile that was always there "we will miss you Allen".

Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Allen was a Business partner with a passion for people and seeing/helping them succeed. I will always have that vision of him atop his wind surfing board going where ever the wind could take him. Allen's generosity and passion was contagious and lives in all he touched.

Allen hosted me over ten years ago as I was a chaperone to a group of French students.
That was the beginning of a long and enriching friendship. We exchanged and shared so much!
We built up a special way of communicating, an odd mixture of English, French and idioms. He taught me more than any other English speaker I have known but, most of all, he was a genuine friend.
I will always keep wonderful memories of his beautiful singing, his clever puns and his emotion when, one day, he told me 'Céline! I am so glad, last night I dreamt in French!'
Allen had this rare ability to look at the world the way children do, to open his eyes wide and enjoy every minute of what was there for him.
He surely passed away too soon, there was so much left for him to enjoy, he would have been able to fill a life of two hundred years and not get bored a single minute.
I will never ever forget him and feel blessed I knew him and was his friend.

Allen, tu me manques. Tu continueras d'exister dans mon coeur, toujours.

My fondest memory of Allen Kalik was his recounting of his total immersion French class. He and the other students actually lived in a hotel/dorm for a month and could only speak French to one another. It amazed me that he would embark on a one month live away from home endeavor like that. Allen remarked that the early days were very uncomfortable to everyone because, due to their poor language skills, they couldn't describe themselves to one another and so lost their identity. The example he gave was meeting another student at dinner and trying to describe his job. All he could say was, "I businessman". The other students were no more descriptive, so no one knew for sure who/what they were dealing with. For some reason that phrase stuck with me and I've retold his story to friends more times than I can count.

I will miss him.

Allen was one of the most beautiful people I have even known. We completed our masters in French at the same time and I emulated his fervor and creativity. August 16, 2010

Dear Pat and Pinnacle/TBS family: Allan was truly a visionary & a trailblazer: Through his development of PI, he opened the possibility for all of us to dream big dreams: Until I was exposed to PI, it never occurred to me that we could have clients whom we would be billing 10's of thousands of dollars per month. For me, Allan created the excitement that there is an endless market out there to whom we can provide our services, and be profitable in doing so. Personally, I liked him tremendously: I enjoyed speaking French with him (though he quickly surpassed my knowledge of the language)and I loved and admired his zest for living life to the fullest. Allan truly made a great difference in my life, as I know he did in many others, and I feel so blessed having had the opportunity to know him and learn from him. I hope your pride in his many accomplishments, and the knowledge that he lives forth in so many of us whom he deeply touched, will make it easier for you to have peace with his passing. Jannemieke

Allen taught me more about business then I could have ever learned in any school, and more about life than I could ever learn in a million lifetimes. He was a mentor, a father-figure, and a great friend to me. Although the world has lost one of its greatest souls, Allen will never be forgotten and will continue to live on in our hearts.

To Pat, Lisa and Daniel: Never forget how many lives Allen has touched. He made a lasting impression on every person he came into contact with. Of all the innovations and ideas his brilliant mind created, he was more proud of his family than anything else. My thoughts are with you and your loved ones.

Allen, I know your spirit lives on and that someday we will meet again... I will keep my guitar tuned with fresh strings in anticipation of our next duet.

"There's a song that they sing when they take to the highway, a song that they sing when they take to the sea. A song that they sing of their home in the sky. Maybe you can believe it, if it helps you to sleep... but singing works just fine for me." -James Taylor

to Pat Kalik and family (that includes the cigar building people too!) ....What a great loss! Working for Executive Exchange was a big part of my life. I learned so much! I remember Allen sitting down with me after I returned from my MVA and told me he had a TBI also?? That gave me so much hope as he is a mentor I will never forget. We had a few 'good talks'...he was so caring and giving and most of all....genuinely concerned. It was a pleasure to work alongside both Kaliks and my heart pains for the survivors. RIP Allen.

We were very saddened hearing the news about losing Alan. I don't even know how long I have known him but it's very safe to say it's over 25 years or more. Allen was quite a guy. He demonstrated that if you need to achieve something, just go do it. He left me with a formula P=E for life...plenty equals enough. I've kept this advice in mind but, with Allen's passing, a flaw reveals itself. Allen lived a plentiful life but left too soon...so, not enough. Only good memories.

Allen,
I am finding this to be some of the hardest words I have ever had to write.
I can remember the day you interviewed me 26 years ago as if it was yesterday. Man! Have we seen some changes along the way since the days at Executive Exchange and the switchboards. You always believed in me and I am grateful that I had the chance to work with both you & Pat for all of these years.
You were a great teacher and you had a great understanding of people. You were a kind and generous man and you really did make a difference in so many peoples lives. You are truly missed but will never be forgotten.
If heaven is what ever we could imagine it to be, I can see you windsurfing your way all the way to Paris.
May peace fill the hearts of all of your loved ones.
With love,

No industry meeting was ever quite the same without Allen. He had a warmth, a wonderful and heartfelt smile, a great sense of humor and a humanity that could brighten up a tradeshow room, or any room, like few others. As a Quebecer I always enjoyed a special sidebar conversation whenever we got together given Allen's love of all things francophile. Indeed I think he sought me out for that as much as I sought him out for his intelligent, softspoken and kind demeanor. And I will never be able to eat a piece of pie again without thinking of my 'amie Allen'. My deepest condolences to you Pat, to your family and to his entire Professional Teledate family - may we all keep his spirit alive in our memories, our hearts and our actions.

Our industry has lost one of our great visionaries. To listen to Allen speak was a treat. I will never forget his humorous description of how in "the old days" we could train a new employee on our equipment and then use a file card to explain the few who needed special handling, and how, just a few years later we could cover the floor with the list of those special accounts. He led the way to solve that problem. He will live in our hearts and our equipment and our imaginations as we go about our days.
Allen is in God’s arms now. Peace.

I am so saddened by this news. Allen was a pioneer in the telephone answering service industry. Twice he helped revolutionize the industry with his introduction of software that changed the face of the industry forever.

Personally, he was so kind to me and so willing to share his vast knowledge about the industry and life. I will miss Allen vso very much.

Rest in peace Allen

Allen wasn't just a boss, he was a force. An intense, funny, and caring guy, his spirit overspills his sixty years and we will all carry a little bit of him with us.

Dear Pat, Lisa and Dan,
Our sincere condolences in Allen's passing. Life is so short...and much too short in Al's case! There is comfort in knowing that he lived well and with gusto! One of my best ever vacations was Snowbird with the guys...remember Dan! And tennis with our sons.... Allen was a good friend and will be missed. We're thankful to have known him and been a part of his life. Let us know if there's anything you need. Sincerely, Rick, Julia, James, Karen & Mike
