BEDFORD -- Sylvia M. Banks, 91, formerly of China, Maine, died Feb. 19, 2011, at Ridgewood Health Care Center after a period of declining health.
She was born in China, Maine, on May 5, 1919, the daughter of Gene and Ethel (Fish) Brann. She was a lifelong resident of China before moving to Bedford.
Until retirement, she was a music teacher in the China School Department and the town librarian. She was also an educator at Erskine Academy and taught private piano lessons for many years.
She was a lifelong member of China Baptist Church where she was the organist.
She was active in music circles in Waterville and Augusta, Maine.
She was married to Joseph F. Banks, who died June 6, 1972. She was also predeceased by her son, Gerald J. Banks.
Family members include her daughter, Mrs. Richard (Marjeanne) Vacco of Londonderry; two grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren; a sister, Thelma Morsillo of Manchester, Vt.; and several nieces and nephews.
IN HER LIFE: She was predeceased by a brother, Leon Brann, who was in killed in action during World War II.
SERVICES: A memorial service will be held Friday at 1p.m in China Baptist Church, China Village.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Albert Church Brown Library, China Village.
