NATICK, Mass. - Mary (Naum) Arthur, beloved mother, wife and inspiration to many, died at the age of 87, on Tuesday, May 15, 2012. She was the beloved wife of the late Nicholas Arthur, who died Feb 2, 2007.
A Natick resident for 61 years, she was born in Manchester, N.H., the daughter of Thomas and Eufrosine (Kotronian) Naum. Mary spent much of her childhood living in Manchester under the care of her aunt, Evanthia S. Naum, and uncle, Hercules P. Naum, along with her brother, Merchant Marine Capt. John Naum, who died on Feb. 24, 2009.
She graduated with honors from West High School in 1942 and went on to study at the Institute of Art and Sciences before working at the Currier Gallery of Art, all in Manchester, N.H. Mary was an artist by all means, and her spirit embodied the essence of creativity and purity. She belonged to the international women's social, cultural and service organization, Beta Sigma Phi, and represented the organization honorably.
Mary was most at peace by the ocean, and spent many summers on Monhegan Island in Maine with her friend and art teacher Maria Graubart. Perhaps that is where she found so much of the artistic inspiration that will live on through her loved ones still.
She was a longtime member of the Albanian Orthodox Church of the Annunciation in Natick.
She is survived by three devoted daughters, Jean Kadlik and her husband, Robert, of Natick, Linda Harringer and her husband, John, of West Palm Beach, Fla., Marsha Holoubek and her husband, Richard, of Northborough; six grandchildren, Nicole Bailey, Korin Ihloff, Jeffrey Holoubek, Robert Harringer, Rondi Harringer and Lori Harringer; seven great-grandchildren; cousins Effie, George and Julia Naum, all of Manchester. She was also the great-grandmother of the late Justin Bailey.
