CANDIA - Albert Ronald "Ron" Thomas of Candia passed away Sunday, July 15, 2012, surrounded by his loving family following a short illness. He was 77.

Born Oct. 12, 1934 in Albany, N.Y., to Kathryn (Williams) Thomas and Albert Dewey Thomas, he graduated from The Milne School, Albany, N.Y., in 1952 and Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 1961. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1954 to 1958 and received his MBA from New Hampshire College (now SNHU) in 1983. He worked as an electrical engineer for Public Service Company of New Hampshire for 35 years.
As a resident of Candia for 47 years, he was an active public servant in his town. In 2004, he received the Local Government Center's Municipal Volunteer Award for his work. He was most recently a member of the Heritage Commission and co-chairman of the Semiquincentennial Committee. He served as moderator for both the town and school for more than 30 years.
He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Linda A. Thomas of Candia; his sister, Marjorie Osterhout of Saratoga Springs, N.Y.; brother-in-law and best friend, Gerry N. Lugg of Albany, N.Y.; daughter, Katherine Thomas-Hellmuth, her husband Andrew, and their children, Alden and Nathan, of Rocky Hill, Conn.; son, Matthew Thomas, wife Sharon, and their children, Jocelyn and Garrett, of Weare; daughter, Elizabeth Warner, and her husband Don, of Milford; daughter, Shannon Fournier, and her fiancé Greg Eaton, of Greenfield, Mass.
services:In lieu of flowers, donations may be designated for the Smyth Memorial Building restoration, a project Ron had most recently been involved with. Checks should be written to the Heritage Commission – Town of Candia, 74 High St., Candia, 03034.
Calling hours will be held at Maiden-Petrin Funeral Home in Candia on July 25, 2012 from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
