Hopkinton - Lee Papakalos, 67, died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013, at the Harris Hill Nursing Home.

He was born in Camden Maine, son of the late Tony and Mary (Waite) Papakalos. He was a graduate of Goffstown High School and the Culinary Institute of America in New Haven, Conn.

He was a lance corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps, serving his country during the Vietnam War, where he received the Purple Heart.

Lee spent his career as a professional chef. He loved spending time with his family, especially his three grandchildren, whom he adored.

He is survived by two daughters, Tania Barrett of Hopkinton and Robin Matterfis of Middletown, Conn.; three grandchildren, Jordyn, Jacob and Linnea.


services: Visiting hours will be held Thursday, Jan. 24, from 3 to 6 p.m. at Waters Funeral Home, 50 S. Main St., Concord. Funeral services and military honors will be held on Friday, Jan. 25, at 11:30 a.m. in the chapel at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, Boscawen.

Donations may be made in Lee's memory to the Hopkinton Fire Department, 9 Pine St., Hopkinton 03229 and to the Guide Dogs for the Blind, Oregon Campus, 32901 S.E. Kelso Road, Boring, OR 97009.
