MANCHESTER - Muriel I. Howard, 71, of Manchester passed away Nov. 14, 2013, at Hanover Hill Healthcare Center surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Springvale, Maine, on Dec. 11, 1941, the daughter of Frank and Flora (Hill) Morrill.
She was raised in Sanford, Maine, and moved to Manchester in the mid-1970s. Muriel was employed for many years at J.F. McElwain Shoe Company and later at Home Insurance and in the kitchen of Harborside Healthcare until illness forced her retirement.
She was a member of the Manchester Baptist Church and attended Bethany Chapel. Muriel enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, including spending time with her grandchildren, shopping and taking car rides.
She is survived by her son, Gerald Howard of Manchester; her daughter, Deborah Rood, and her husband, Mark Rood, of Manchester; 14 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Frank Morrill of Somersworth; and two sisters, Lillian Ashton of Manchester and Elaine Johnson of Rochester..
Services: There are no calling hours. A memorial ceremony will be held Saturday, Nov. 23, beginning at 10:30 a.m. in the Bethany Chapel, 54 Newbury Road, Manchester. The Rev. Dr. Vera M. Wingate, pastor, will officiate. The McHugh Funeral Home, 283 Hanover St., Manchester, is assisting the family with arrangements.
