URBANA – Bruce E. Hunt, 66, of Urbana, passed away on Thursday, June 5, 2014, at OSU Medical Center. He was born Nov. 8, 1947, in Urbana and was a 1965 graduate of Graham High School.

Bruce served his county during the Vietnam War as a Canine Handler in the United States Air force. He also served as a volunteer for 12 years as part of the Canine team for the Champaign County Sheriff's Department Auxiliary. He retired from CT Communications after 30 years of service as a Purchasing Agent. Bruce enjoyed reading and playing golf.

He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Cherie Hunt; daughters, Alyssa (Doug) Dunham of Urbana and Alyson Hunt of Urbana; grandsons, Dereck and Trenton Dunham; brothers, Phil (Helen) Hunt of Noblesville, Ind., and Mark (Carol) Hunt of Cable; sister, Martha Ackley of Orient; mother-in-law, Wanda Penhorwood of Urbana; sister-in-law, Debbie (Mark) Towler; and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his father, William Luther Hunt, and his mother, Maybelle (Carter) Hunt; father-in-law, Ray Penhorwood; and several aunts and uncles.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 3-7 p.m. on Sunday, June 8, 2014, in the VERNON FUNERAL HOME, Urbana, Ohio. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 9, 2014, in the funeral home with Pastor Larry Hall, Pastor Mike Bird and Reverend Cliff Kissinger officiating. Burial will follow in Grandview Cemetery.
