David W. Scheff

WEST LIBERTY - David W. Scheff, SMSGT, USAF Retired, 51, of West Liberty, passed away after a courageous five-year battle with Cholangiocarcinoma, on Friday, May 2, 2014, in his home.

He was born on October 14, 1962, in Glen Cove, New York the son of the late William D. and Sheila (Walker) Scheff. David enlisted in the United States Air Force following high school and retired after twenty-four years of service. While stationed at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland, he served as Flight Chief of Air Force One under Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush. Following his military retirement in 2003 he went back to school and graduated with a Masters of Business Aviation. For the past decade he was employed by Booz-Allen-Hamilton as a senior aviation consultant. He was a member of the American Legion #0426 in West Liberty, Mad River Lodge 161 F&AM, and was on the board of the Champaign Aviation Museum, Urbana, Ohio.
David is survived by his wife Gina of twenty-three years, two daughters: Christina and Catherine, one son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Mellissa Siler of St. Mary's County, Maryland; one brother and sister-in-law, John and Margaret Walker of Florida; two grandchildren, Savannah and Dylan Siler; in-laws, Thomas and Mary Porter, William and Debra Wilson all of Bellefontaine, John and Tina Wheatley of Arkansas, Tadd and Virginia Chaney and Noah and Pam Dillon all of Springfield. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Tuesday, May 6 from 4-8 p.m. in the Champaign Aviation Museum, 1652 N. Main Street, Urbana, Ohio where services will be held celebrating his life and military accomplishments on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Brian Meadows of the Huntsville United Methodist Church officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow the service at the Fairview Cemetery, West Liberty.
