Douglas McAdams Obituary
WEST LIBERTY - Rev. Douglas Dean McAdams, 84, of West Liberty, passed away at Green Hills Care Center on Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2016.
He was born in New Hampshire, OH to the late Earl and Clara Harpest McAdams. He is also preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Frances McAdams, whom he married on June 5, 1954 in Ardmore, OK.
On August 17, 2013 he married the former Judy Andrews and she survives in West Liberty along with his daughter, Sarah Elizabeth "Sallee" (Gary) Purvis of Ashley, OH; grandchildren, Tara Luling of Lewis Center and her children, Lauren, Taylor, Jake & Colby; Trisha Purvis of Galena, OH; Caleb (Kayla) Purvis of Delaware and their son, Brady; and Gabriel Purvis of Ashley, OH; his siblings, Virginia F. Novean and Leonard Widau; and several nieces and nephews.
A 1953 graduate of Olivet Nazarene College and a 1956 graduate of Nazarene Theological Seminary, Rev. McAdams pastored his first church in Mt. Blanchard, OH. From there he went to Union City, IN, Urbana, OH and retired from Toledo Trinity.
Pastor Ken Neighoff will officiate a funeral at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 30, 2016 at the Church of the Nazarene, 325 Washington Ave., Bellefontaine, where friends may call from 11 to 1 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will be in the Rushsylvania Cemetery.

Pastor McAdams and Fran arrived at Mt. Blanchard Church of the Nazarene following Dean's time at Nazarene Theological Seminary. A few months later, Sarah Elizabeth (Sally) was born to the delight of her parents, the church, and especially to a young teen ... me.
Rev. McAdams faithfully preached the Word, visited his congregation, and dearly loved his family.
One illustration stands out from a sermon of his about the cleansing power of God. As a kid Dean watched his father take an empty oil drum and set the inside on fire. When the fire went out, there was no more oil even in the crevices. And, with that illustration, Pastor McAdams helped us to better understand the greatness of God's work within each one of us if we simply ask and believe. I have used that illustration numerous times throughout the years.
Our heartfelt condolences to all of his family and friends! Thanks be to God for a life well lived honoring the Lord.
