URBANA – Robert Francis Kern, 90, of Urbana, passed away Monday, March 24, 2014, in his home surrounded by family. He was born June 2, 1923, in Lima, Ohio, the son of the late Harry L. and Mary V. (Schwendeman) Kern. Robert served his country in the United States Army during WWII. He was a graduate of The Ohio State University. Robert was a member of St. Mary Church in Urbana. He enjoyed classical music, walking and cooking.

He is survived by his wife, (Marjorie) Elaine (Baker) Kern, daughter, Roberta (Robert) Arnold of Urbana, sons, Gregory Kern of Jersey City, NJ, and Ted Kern of Knoxville, TN, grandchildren, Brendan Kern of Fairbanks, AK, Amanda Arnold of Urbana, Emily Arnold of Springfield, Katherine Arnold of Urbana and Jennifer Kern of Knoxville, TN, great-grandchild, Alisdair Ellis, sister-in-law, Eileen Kennedy of Urbana and nephew, Allan Baker of Urbana.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, March 27, 2014, in the VERNON FUNERAL HOME, Urbana. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, March 28, 2014, in St. Mary Church with Father Larry Gearhart celebrant. Burial will follow in Oak Dale Cemetery, Urbana.
