LEBANON - Mary I. Clark, 93, of the Otterbein Lebanon retirement community, Lebanon, Ohio, formerly of Randolph, died unexpectedly Tuesday, Nov. 26, at her home.
She was born Nov. 8, 1920, in Logan County, Ohio, to the late Seth and May Ingram. She was married Aug. 16, 1947, to Charles W. Clark, who preceded her in death Feb. 18, 1978.
She resided in Randolph from 1960 to 1989 and was a registered nurse for most of this period. Nursing was her proudest accomplishment and she worked at W.C.A. Hospital in Jamestown from 1961-1982. Following her retirement, she became an active member of the Randolph EMS and Fire Department and served on the former Village of Randolph Board. The Randolph Lions Club named her Citizen of the Year in 1989.
She was a 1943 graduate of the Grant Hospital School of Nursing in Columbus, Ohio. After graduation, she continued to work at Grant Hospital, then at hospitals in Springville, N.Y., and Waterville, Maine, followed by W.C.A. Hospital.
She relocated to Ohio in 1989, where she lived in Urbana before moving to the Otterbein Lebanon retirement community in Lebanon in 2003, where she was very active in community activities. She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church of Randolph, then the First Presbyterian Church of Urbana, Ohio.
She is survived by her daughter Melissa Clark Kawahara and her husband Hiroyuki of Lebanon, Ohio; a granddaughter, Alisa Kawahara of Lebanon; and a sister Martha Frances Spain and her husband Richard of North Lewisburg, Ohio. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles W. Clark, and seven siblings.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 1 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Urbana Saturday, Dec. 21, with the Rev. Kevin Horrigan officiating. Burial will be in Yorkshire, N.Y., at a later date. Condolences may be expressed at ingramfuneralservice.com.
