MECHANICSBURG – William "Bill" Westfall Sr., 95, a lifelong resident of Mechanicsburg, passed away Monday, May 12, 2014, in McAuley Center. He was born August 22, 1918, in Mechanicsburg.

Bill worked in retailing coal for 28 years and was a former employee of Rockwell. He served on the Mechanicsburg Fire Department for 34 years. He was the local historian of Mechanicsburg. He enjoyed camping and spending time with his family.

Bill is survived by his very special friend of 22 years, Darlene Trainer; his sons, William "Bill" (Susie), Jr., Jim (Gloria) and Jerry (Laurie) Westfall, all of Mechanicsburg; his grandchildren, Bill, Jon, Heidi, Jim, Jr., Julie, J.D., Charles, Mellissa and Tony; his great-grandchildren, Logan, Kara, Caleb, Gwen, Kyle, Drew, Emily, Hannah, Alexa, Araya, Jim, Rachell, Jeffrey, Cassie and Danny; his great-great-grandchildren, Eli, Mara, Jacob, Johnny, Jordon and Raven; his sister, Mildred Brown of Texas; several nieces and nephews; and his special friends at Castle's.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Garnet L. (Trainer) Westfall, in 1984; his parents, Pearl G. and Cara B. (McClintick) Westfall; his daughter, Gloria K. Fooce; his sister, Helen Hodge, and brother, Harold Westfall; and his grandsons, Danny and Donnie.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, May 15, 2014, in the SKILLMAN, McDONALD, & VERNON FUNERAL HOME, Mechanicsburg. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 16, 2014, in the funeral home with Pastor Linden Good officiating.

Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Mechanicsburg. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Mechanicsburg Fire Association, 18 N. Main St., Mechanicsburg, Ohio 43044. Condolences may be expressed to the family at
