ST. PARIS – Lucy Kathryn Persinger, age 98, of St. Paris, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, July 16, 2014, in Sterling House of Urbana.
Born in Logan County on Oct. 21, 1915, Lucy was a daughter of the late John Henry and Merle (Loffer) Bates. She married Ronald Neese Persinger on Nov. 9, 1935, and he preceded her in death on Oct. 6, 1996. Together they raised four children; Thelma Anderson of N. Jackson, Ohio, Lucy Isabelle Bishop of Urbana, Ronald (Nancy) Persinger of Urbana and Donald (Sally) Persinger of Lancaster, Ohio. She was a loving grandmother to 10 grandchildren: Brenda (Denny) Markley, Doug Anderson, John W. Bishop, James R. Bishop, Kathryn L. Helman, Tami Haerr, Sherri Lanier, Laura (Scott) Morgan, Sarah Persinger and Jennie (Derek) Brommell.
She is also survived by 14 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law Carol Persinger of DeGraff; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband; three brothers, John, Herbert and William Bates; and one sister Martha Cook; preceded her in death.
Lucy graduated from West Liberty High School in 1933. She attended the Terre Haute United Methodist Church. When she was able, she enjoyed monthly breakfasts with the retired Graham cooks and luncheons with the Urbana senior group. She loved to play Euchre.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 19, 2014, at noon in the ATKINS-SHIVELY FUNERAL HOME, 216 S. Springfield St., St. Paris, OH 43072 with Pastor David Yinger presiding. Burial will follow in Terre Haute Cemetery, state Route 55, Urbana. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 a.m. to noon prior to the funeral service in the funeral home.
