Marian Gordon

MECHANICSBURG - Marian Elaine (Scheiderer) Gordon, 88, of Mechanicsburg, received her call from Heaven on Sunday, Dec. 29, 2013, in The Gables of Green Pastures in Marysville.

She was born April 11, 1925, in Unionville Center, Ohio. Marian was the oldest of nine children born to Lewis J. and Opal G. (Douglas) Scheiderer.

On Nov. 4, 1941, she married her only love, Elmer V. Gordon in Hagar Hill, Ky. Marian enjoyed working in her flower gardens, sewing, quilting, cooking, and crocheting. She also enjoyed shopping for antiques. She was an excellent seamstress and made clothes for her family. She was always active in 4-H and school activities for her children. In her later years, she took pleasure in sitting on her porches and was thrilled when her friends and special neighbors would come to visit with her. She was a member of the Champaign County Quilt Club.

Marian was employed in her early years, as a switchboard operator with her two sisters, Joan and Barbara. After 26 years at the Ranco Corporation in Plain City, she retired. She accomplished many things in her lifetime and treasured her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her children, Larry L. (Linda) Gordon, J. Ann (John) Smith, and Barbara J. (Kendall) Pell, all of Mechanicsburg; her grandchildren, Christine (Neal) Hutzell and their children Sean and Jacquelyn of Iowa, Mark (Shelly) Gordon and their children Zach and Sammi of Piqua, Greg (Kelli) Gordon and their children Cameron and Alexis of Piqua, John (Tonia) Smith II and their daughter Savannah of Galena, Bryan Patterson of Mechanicsburg, Jennifer Patterson of Westville, James (Malena) Starkey and their children Cammie and Asher; her son-in-law, Roger B. Patterson of Mechanicsburg; her sisters, Joan (Ron) Scheurer of Mansfield and Barbara (Harold) Bragg of Mechanicsburg; her brothers, Don (Kate) Scheiderer of Findlay, Raymond (Linda) Scheiderer of Mechanicsburg, Jerry (Marilyn) Scheiderer of Springfield, and Loren (Sheila) Scheiderer of Mechanicsburg; many nieces and nephews, special friends, and caring neighbors; devoted neighbor, JT Snyder, special cousin, Lois Miller and special niece, Kathy Allison.

Marian was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer V. Gordon of 46 years; her son, James A. Gordon of Springfield; her daughter, J. Diane (Gordon) Patterson of Mechanicsburg; her grandson, Lucas E. Gordon of Columbus; her parents, Lewis and Opal (Douglas) Scheiderer; her brothers, David Scheiderer and James Scheiderer.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 3, 2014, at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Marysville, with Rev. Dr. Harley Roston officiating. Services are entrusted to SKILLMAN, MCDONALD & VERNON FUNERAL HOME, Mechanicsburg.
