Gagliano, Gertrude M. (Alteri) - Utica
Gertrude M. (Alteri) Gagliano 1929 - 2016 Loving and Generous UTICA - Mrs. Gertrude M. (Alteri) Gagliano, age 87, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 20, 2016 with her loving family at her side. Born in Utica on April 13, 1929, Gertrude was the daughter of the late Silverio and Rose (Pristera) Alteri. She was a graduate of T.R. Proctor High School/Class of 1947. On June 10, 1950 she married Joseph C. Gagliano, Sr.; they were partners in life for 47 years, until Joe passed away on December 19, 1997. During her working life, Gertrude held clerical and administrative positions with the New York Telephone Company, the job from which she retired after 25 years of service. At the same time, she shared her musical talent teaching piano from her home. Her family was grateful for her optimism, love, and guidance. Her loving care and support found many avenues whether it be a kind gesture, a comforting meal, or a supportive conversation. She was happy to host family dinners, bake for the Christmas holiday, and uphold time-honored Italian traditions. The most special moments were when family and friends visited Gertie and were graciously greeted by her with such a sincere welcome, a cup of coffee, and dessert. She loved everyone, but she had a special fondness for her grandchildren because they brought so much joy to her. She also loved music, especially opera. Gertrude was a NY Yankees fan, and she would never say no to a trip to the Casino. She was a member of the NY Telephone Pioneers volunteer service club, and she practiced her Catholic faith at St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church where she was a member of the Altar Rosary Society. Gertrude is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, MaryRose Abdoo and fiance Larry Joyal of NY Mills, and Linda and Joseph Herubin of Deerfield; her son and daughter-in-law, Joseph C., Jr. and Melissa Gagliano of East Amherst, NY; her grandchildren, Adam and Becky Herubin; Joseph Gagliano III, Laura Gagliano, and Michael Gagliano; and her great-granddaughter, Abby Burdick. She also leaves her nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, especially acknowledging Joanne Parlagreco, Vincent Pristera, and Nancy Graniti; brother-in-law, Russell Gagliano; and friends Frances Mannino, Carmella and Frank Sciortino, and many others. She was also predeceased by several in-laws; and nieces and nephews. The family is grateful to the staff of the Masonic Care Community of NY, especially the Bronx Unit, for the care and compassion they provided to Gert during her stay. Visitation will be held Thursday from 4:00-7:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. By family request, please omit floral offerings. Gertrude's funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Friday morning at 9:30 from the funeral home and at 10:30 at St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church where her Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. Mark Kaminski. Entombment will take place in Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum at the convenience of the family. Her love and generosity will live in our hearts forever.
