Albin, Virginia Ginny  
Virginia Ginny Albin ILION Virginia Ginny Albin , 90, of 54 South Fourth Ave, Ilion, passed away Wednesday, April 15, 2015, in Rutland, VT. Ginny was born on November 20, 1924, in Utica, NY, the daughter of the late Clarence and Emma Smith Joslin, and was a 1943 graduate of Bridgewater High School. On April 27, 1946, Ginny was united in marriage to Joseph L. Albin, at her parents home in Bridgewater. Joe passed away March 29, 1984. Ginny was employed by the New York Telephone Company prior to her marriage and worked at Big Jims Subs, in Herkimer, for many years. She was a member of the Morning Star Methodist Church in Ilion, and was very active in church activities. She also was in the New York State Pioneers Club, and was an avid bowler. Ginny is survived by her children and their spouses, Richard Albin and Robin Forster, of Eugene, OR, Donald and Cindy Albin, of Ilion, and Patricia Albin-Diercksen and Peter Diercksen, of Castleton, VT; her sisters, Lois Kennedy, of Clark Mills, Fern Burford and Linda Gillmore, both of Columbia, MD, Hazel Pugh, of Baldwinsville; and her sister-in-law, Rita Joslin, of Clinton. She is survived by 8 grandchildren, Carole Fitzer, Michele Hummel, Todd Albin, Kyle, Anya, and Kurt Diercksen, and Starmichael and Sawithia Bowman; 8 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Ginny was predeceased by her brother, Clarence Joslin Jr.; and her sisters, Ida Mae Joslin, Pauline Clemente, Ruth McNair, and Johanna Rowe. Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours, to be held on Monday, April 20, 2015, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., at the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home Inc., 100 Otsego Street, Ilion. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 21, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home, with Rev. Robert Wollaber officiating. Interment will follow in the Armory Hill Cemetery, Ilion. Friends are asked to consider memorial donations to Meals-on-Wheels, 109 Mary St., Herkimer, NY 13350, or the Ilion Public Library, West St., Ilion, NY 13357, in lieu of flowers. Walter Andela WEST WINFIELD Walter Andela , age 78, husband of Dorothy (Hoekstra), went to be with his Lord Thursday, April 16, 2015, with family surrounding him. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; children, Nicholas(Arlene), Andrew(Linda), Kenneth(Diane), Beverly(Steve), Joanne, John(Paula) and Mike(Heidi); 20 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; a brother, Richard(Judy); a brother-in-law, Woody; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; and siblings, Andrew, Peter, Louis, Agnes, Trina, Gertrude and Jane. Calling hours will be in the Richfield Springs Bible Church, on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Funeral service will follow in the church at 12:30p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the MS Fight Club (Multiple Sclerosis), c/o Arlene Andela, 473 Cty Hwy 23, West Winfield, NY 13491, or the Bassett Cancer Institute, 1 Atwell Rd, Cooperstown, NY 13326. Barker, Mary E.  
Mary E. Barker WHITING, NJ Mary E. Barker , 84, of Whiting, NJ, formerly of Morrisville, passed away Tuesday, April 7, 2015, at the Capital Health Medical Center in Hopewell, NJ. She was born May 16, 1930, in Earlville, a daughter of Eddie and Laura Day Johnson, and was a graduate of Earlville High School. On June 4, 1948, Mary married Charles D. Barker in Earlville. They were married for 58 years when Charles predeceased her on February 26, 2007. Mary assisted her husband in the operation of the Charles D. Barker Funeral Home in Morrisville until their retirement. Following that, they moved to Whiting, NJ, to be close to their daughter and her family. Mary was a former member of the Morrisville Community Church. Surviving are her daughter, Beth Russell, of Ewing, NJ; three grandchildren, Ashley, Kayley and Charley Russell; a sister, Helen Pacer, of Whiting, NJ; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sisters, Kathleen Frawley and Laura Mae Burton. A Memorial Service was held Saturday, April 11, 2015, from the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 31 Cedar St., Morrisville. Barrett, Steven C.  
Steven C. Barrett NORWICH Steven C. Barrett , 38, of Guernsey Ave., died Monday, April 6, 2015, at his home. He was born April 5, 1977, in Claremont, NH, a son of Charles R. and Kathryn Johnson Barrett, and received his education in Hamilton schools. Steve had worked for Wal-Mart in Norwich for 17 years. His favorite hobbies included drawing, writing and photography. He is survived by his mother, Kathryn Barrett, of Hamilton; a son, Mason William Barrett, of Madison; two aunts and an uncle, Jean Harmon, of Waterville, and Edna and Franklin Johnson, of Sherburne; and many cousins. A Memorial Service was held at 1 p.m., Thursday, April 16, 2015, from the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 3 Preston St., Earlville. Interment in West Hill Cemetery, Sherburne, is private. Bendix, Grace W.  
Grace W. Bendix CLARK MILLS Grace W. Bendix , 88, of Clark Mills, passed away Tuesday, April 14, 2015, at Faxton-St. Luke's Hospital. She was born in Cassville on April 12, 1927, the daughter of the late Herbert and Rhoda Wadsworth. Grace was raised by Burt and Emma Brown in Bridgewater and graduated from the local schools. She was married to Carl Bendix on October 6, 1951. Grace retired from Oneida County after forty years of service. She had become the head of Audit and Control and served her county with dedication and pride. She was a member of Grace Church, where she sang in the choir for 50 years and was a member of the Altar Society. She was also a member of Order of the Eastern Star and the Utica Maennerchor, where she also sang in the ladies' chorus. She is survived by her son, Carl Bendix, of Malibu, California, and was predeceased by her husband. All are invited to call Sunday, April 19, 2015, from 3-5 p.m. at Owens-Pavlot & Rogers Funeral Service, Inc., 35 College St., Clinton. Beratta, Michele C. - Marcellus  
Michele C. Beratta MARCELLUS Michele C. Beratta , 72, of Maple Street, formerly of Oneida and Sylvan Beach, died Tuesday, April 14, 2015, in Community General Hospital, Syracuse, where she had been a medical patient for the past three days, following an illness of two years. Born in Rome on March 16, 1943, she was the daughter of Louis and Mildred Brenon Centro. Raised in Sylvan Beach, Michele was a graduate of Oneida High School, Class of 1961, and Powelson Business Institute. She married Joseph P. Beratta on February 27, 1965, in St. John's Church, North Bay. Mr. Beratta died on May 4, 2014. Joe and Michele moved to Florida in 1994, returning to Central New York in 2013. Prior to her marriage, Michele was employed with the New York State Police, Troop D, and in later years as the secretary to the principal of the Oneida Junior High School. While residing in the Oneida and Sylvan Beach areas, she was a communicant of St. Patrick's Church, Oneida, and St. Mary's of the Lake Church, Verona Beach, and was a member of the Oneida Elks #767 Auxiliary. Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Marlaine B. and Matthew Mc Mechen, of Aurora, Colorado, and two sons and one daughter-in-law, Peter J. and Dena Beratta, of Marcellus, and Joseph P. Beratta, Jr., of Stuart, Florida; five grandchildren, Sophia, Juliana and Benjamin Beratta and Alaina and Amanda Beratta; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 10 AM, Monday, from St. Patrick's Church, Oneida, where the Funeral Mass will be celebrated by the Reverend Richard Kapral, Pastor. Fred W. Blakeslee UTICA Fred W. Blakeslee , 88, of Acacia Village, devoted husband of Jane, and former resident of Holland Patent and Pine Bush, NY, passed away on Sunday, February 8, 2015, at the Masonic Care Community, after a short illness. He was a former resident of Holland Patent, where he was Holland Patent High School principal. Memorial services for Fred will be held on Saturday, April 18, at 11:00 AM in the All-Purpose Room at Acacia Village, Masonic Care Community, 2160 Bleecker St., Utica, NY, with interment with Miltary Honors in Boonville Cemetery at a later date. Susan A. Casamento UTICA, NY Susan A. Casamento , 59, of Utica, passed away on April 11, 2015, at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare Center, with her loving family at her side. Susan was born in Utica on November 27, 1955, the daughter of James D. and Alice M. (Manzinger) Gaffney. She was raised and educated locally and was a graduate of Kennedy High School. In 1974, Susan was married to Philip Casamento. Susan was an avid pitch enthusiast and enjoyed her time playing in leagues at the American Legion. She was a member of St. Peter's Church, North Utica. Susan is survived by a daughter and her husband, Nina and Anthony Cosamano, of Marcy; two sons, Vincenzo Casamento and Cindy DiChristina, of Utica, and Philip and his wife, Jessica Casamento, of Frankfort; three cherished grandchildren, Anthony, Filippo and Gianni Cosamano, all of Marcy; Susan's father, James D. Gaffney, of Utica; two sisters and their husbands, Linda and Carl Schrader, of Marcy, and Cynthia and Clifford Symonds, of New Hartford; a brother, James Gaffney and Liz Thomas, of Utica; special niece and nephew, Jennifer and Carl Schrader; and several more nieces, nephews and special friends. Susan was predeceased by her mother, Alice, in 1993. Memorial calling hours will be held Friday evening, April 17, 2015, from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica. A Memorial Service will be offered at 7:30, following visitation, by the Rev. Joseph Salerno. Susan's burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery at the convenience of her family.
