Barton F. (Bart)
Barton F. (Bart) Rostiser, age 90, a longtime area grocer with A & P, Loblaw Inc. and Barts Country Store in Vernon Center, New York, passed away late Thursday evening May 8, 2014, in the Martin Luther Home of Clinton. He was born on March 6, 1924, in Utica, New York, the son of the late William and Mildred Rostiser. Bart spent his early years in Oriskany, NY, through elementary school. The family moved to Clinton, NY, and he graduated from Clinton High School in 1942. He served his country proudly in the US Army
Air Force as a Radio operator on B-17 of the Second Air Force, and B-29 of the 383 Bomb Group 20th Air Force. Returning home to Clinton in 1946 and employment with A & P. After twenty years with A & P, he left to take employment with Loblaws. Bart at one time or another managed stores in Utica, Oneida, Rome, Whitesboro and New Hartford. Returning from the service he became a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 230 in Sherrill, NY and the Veterans of Foreign Wars
, Post 9591 in Clinton, NY. Bart was predeceased by his wife, Jane S. (Sharrow) Rostiser, on March 29, 2009. He is survived by his sister, Beatrice Brady, of Kirkland, NY; his brother, Robert (Duarice), of Vestal, NY; nephews, Joe, Bill Ellis of Naples Florida, Michael Ellis of Clinton, NY and Stephen of North Carolina; a niece, Mary Beth Rostiser of Arizona; his cherished stepdaughters, Elaine (Charles) Burke, of Vernon Center, Delight (George) Vencek, of Vernon, NY; also several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Bart loved music, everything from country Western through Classics. He loved to sing. He sang in several church choirs in NY State as well as in Florida and the Oneida Civic chorale. He played the French horn in band and orchestra and sang in choir all through his high school years. Bart loved animals, especially dogs, as did his wife. He also had pleasure in conversations with new acquaintances. Family and friends are invited to call on Tuesday May 13, 2014 from 9:30 to 10:00 a.m. prior to Barts funeral service that will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Malecki Funeral Home Inc. 464Sherrill Rd., Sherrill, NY, 13461. Burial will follow in Valley View Cemetery, Oneida, NewYork.
