Elsie R. "Ellie" Pollicove, 73, of New Hartford, passed away Friday, February 1, 2013 at the Sitrin Health Care Center, with her children by her side.
She was born July 27, 1939, in Utica, the daughter of the late James A. and Elsie B. Wethje Jones. She was a graduate of Waterville Central School, Class of 1956, St. Luke's Memorial School of Nursing and Utica College. On November 22, 1961, in Waterville, she married Allan Pollicove, a loving union of 44 years until his passing on January 25, 2006. Ellie was a Registered Nurse and was first employed in the emergency department at St. Luke's Hospital. Later she became a valued and dedicated employee of the Sitrin Health Care Center for over 20 years, working in many capacities including nursing, education, director of nursing, reimbursement coordinator and finally as admission coordinator, retiring in 2002.
Mrs. Pollicove was an active member of Temple Emanu-El, served on its Board of Directors and served on the Board of Directors of the Sitrin Health Care Center. She was also a former board member of Hospice & Palliative Care.
Ellie was a very giving and kind woman who was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. She was a wonderful wife, mother and sister and was an adoring grandmother and great grandmother. She enjoyed traveling, playing practical jokes, scrabble, mah-jong and trying to keep up with her grandchildrens activities. Ellie will be deeply missed.
She is survived by three children, Marc Pollicove of New Hartford, Kim Stedman and John A. Gaetano of Clinton and Kerri and Andrew Gale of Clinton; a sister, Beverly and Gene Buell of Tucson, AZ; two sisters-in-law, Elaine and Gerald Kelberman of Longwood, FL and Phyllis Raimone of Cape Coral, FL; six grandchildren, Allison Stedman, Kyle and Kory Pollicove, and Nathan, Nicholas and Jessica Gale; a great granddaughter, Kelsey Van Steenburg; two step grandchildren, Shannon and Joseph Gaetano; special in-laws, Mike Nozik, Helen Pollicove and Kit Pollicove; and many nieces and nephews, especially Midge Jaquays. She was predeceased by three sisters, Stella Mazur, Shirley Simpson and Jennie Jaquays; and three brothers, Tom, Jim and Leslie Jones.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 11 am from Temple Emanu-El, 2710 Genesee Street, Utica, with Rabbi Cassi Kail officiating. Interment will be in Crown Hill Memorial Park, Kirkland. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 9:30-11 am, prior to the service. Shiva will be observed Tuesday and Wednesday from 6-8 pm at Kim's home, 1038 Wildflower Way, Clinton.
In lieu of flowers, kindly consider the Kelberman Center for Autistic Children, the Sitrin Health Care Center or Temple Emanu-El. Envelopes will be available at the service.
