Thomas Martin Burke, Sr. passed away on Saturday, May 24th 2014, at the age of 83. He was born on November 25, 1930, in West Haverstraw, NY, the son of Michael Burke and Mae (Dickenson) Burke. Tom graduated from Haverstraw High School in 1947. On May 15, 1954 he married Helen Elizabeth (Burns) Burke who passed away on February 20, 2012. Tom was a Quality Control Engineer with General Electric Aerospace Division in Utica for 39 years. While a quiet man Tom had a quick wit and great sense of humor. He loved the outdoors, hiking the Adirondack High Peaks in his younger years, hunting in the Saranac Lake region, was an avid reader with a great love for history and treasured the times when his grandchildren came to visit. Tom is survived by his brother, William F. Burke, New Hartford and his five children, Thomas M., Jr and Sandra (MacNamara) Burke of Denver, CO; Kevin M. and Theresa (Carroll) Burke of Castleton, VT; Deborah A. Burke of Utica, NY; Diane E. (Burke) and Samuel Marchese of Cicero, NY; John P. and Faith (Driggers) Burke of Dallas, TX; 12 grandchildren Irene Burke, Michelle (Burke) Dahn, Sarah and Michael (Burke) Young, Jedediah Burke, Rebekah and Adam (Burke) Falco, Hannah Burke, Joshua Burke and fianc Theresa Kaehler, Judah Burke, Josiah Burke, Zachary Marchese, Abigale Marchese, Riley Burke; John Burke, Jr.; four great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Tom is predeceased by his wife, Helen, of 58-years, a sister, Mary (Burke) Dloghy, and two brothers, Michael Burke and John Burke. Special thanks to his Bible Study friends John Humphrey, Jim Powell and John Marleau for visiting Tom every Tuesday. The family would also like to thank Dr. Guy Wilcox and the staff (too numerous to mention) of Masonic Care Community, Erie Neighborhood, for the kindness, care and compassion they provided to Tom over the past 5-years. Toms funeral will be held Tuesday, May 27, 2014, at 10:00 AM at Historic Old St. Johns Church, 240 Bleecker St, Utica where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. His burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Whitesboro. Calling hours for family and friends are Monday, May 26, 2014 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Dimbleby, Friedel,Williams & Edmunds Funeral Home, Forty Main St. Whitesboro.
