Marvin E. Sitts, Sr., 72, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 23, 2014, while his family was at his side, at the Upstate Medical Center, shortly following a surgical operation. He was born in Oriskany Falls on January 9, 1942, the son of the late Kenneth E. and Mildred Biedermann Sitts. Marv graduated from Madison High School Class of 1961 and, following high school, Marv attended Barbering School. He then entered the Navy. He served on the USS Albany during the Cuban Missile Crisis. It was his service to his Country that gave him his lifelong career; he was the ship's barber. Following the service, he came home to Oriskany Falls and, in 1965, married Darleen Pistello. He then started his own business, Marv's Barber Shop. He also enjoyed his position at Rich Plan. He excelled at sales and was named as the company's top salesman. His achievement was due to his outward personality, drive and humor. He especially loved and cared for all his grandchildren. All those who knew and cared for Marv are saddened by his death. He is survived by his children, Lana and Jeffrey Paul, of Madison, Kelly and Kevin Labor, of Oriskany Falls, Sandi Gibbons and her fiance, Craig Berle, of Oriskany Falls, and Marvin E. Sitts, Jr., and his domestic partner, David Flores, of Fort Worth, TX; his brothers, Richard Sitts and Kenneth W. (Louise) Sitts, all of Hamilton; his beloved grandchildren, Jason (LuAnn Vaccaro) Paul, Joshua and Sarah Paul, Casey (Laura Elsenbeck) Paul, Clarissa (Dan Siedsma) Winfield, Vanessa (Alex Nagy) Winfield, Raiven Gibbons and Ceinwen Gibbons; eight great-grandchildren; his former wife, Darleen Scofield; numerous nieces and nephews; and all his friends at the School House Apartments. Marv was predeceased by his parents; his baby brother, Kenneth, Jr.; and his sister-in-law, Sue Sitts. Funeral services with Military Honors will be held on Saturday, November 29, 2014, at 11 AM at the Paul Funeral Home of Madison. Interment will be at Hillside Cemetery in Oriskany Falls. Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours at the funeral home, 3592 South Street, on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM.
