Mary Adams Obituary

Mary Louise Adams
DEANSBORO
Mary Louise Adams, 93, died peacefully on Sunday, August 18, 2013 at the Harding Nursing Home in Waterville, NY.
Mary was born in Wolcott, NY, on August 9, 1920, to Cedric S. and Clara P. Adams. After receiving her Bachelors and Masters degrees from the State University at Albany, she was employed as a Library Science Specialist for 35 years at the Mahopac Central School in Ulster County, NY. A senior yearbook was dedicated in her honor.
Upon retirement, she returned to the family homestead in Deansboro, NY, to care for her mother and aunt. For several years, she typed Braille projects for the Mohawk Valley Association for the Blind. Her passionate interest in gardening resulted in a beautiful landscape at the homestead. She was a member for 67 years of the Deansboro United Church of Christ. Other interests involved the Deansboro Garden Club, the Daughters of the American Revolution and numerous charities. Professionally, she was affiliated with Delta Kappa Gamma and the New York State Teachers Association.
She enjoyed traveling; bicycling excursions through Europe were special. Others were to Mexico, South America, Hawaii, Alaska and the continental United States.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Robert (Charlotte) and George Adams, and brother-in-law, Raymond Rapacz.
Mary is survived by her brother, John and wife, Katherine Adams; sister, Eleanor Rapacz; and sister-in-law, Barbara and husband, Fred Schuck. She also leaves many nephews and nieces.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. at the Deansboro United Church of Christ. A private graveside service will be held at Deansboro Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary's memory can be made to the Deansboro United Church of Christ, PO Box 276, Deansboro, NY 13328.
Arrangements are by the Owens-Pavlot & Rogers Funeral Service, Inc., Clinton.

I graduated from Mahopac High School in l960 where Miss Adams was our librarian. She once told me that reading was the key to a successful person. I picked up a book and having stopped reading since. Now at 70 I can still thank her for the good advice.

Miss. Adams was invaluable to me as a student at the Mahopac schools in the 1950's. Classmates speak of Miss Adams often. Please accept our deepest condolences.

Never really got back to tell Miss Adams what it was that she gave us as a Librarian. She helped us form the 1st Library Club after school, which I was a member. We really learned so much from her about "how to use a library" and "how a library can help us"...I have since past that on to my children and grandchilden.
May God Bless her and all teachers who make a difference in a young person life.
Former Mahopac High School graduate-class of 1960.

A very happy time!
