Richard J. Torchia, 54, of E. Bacon St., Waterville, NY, passed away Friday, June 28, 2013, at Faxton-St. Lukes Healthcare. He was born May 12, 1959, in Utica, a son of Joseph A. and Lorna Dutzle Torchia and was a graduate of Waterville High School. He married Deborah J. Sonia on November 17, 1980 at St. Bernards Church in Waterville. Richard worked for Cusworth Door & Window Co., Inc. in Marcy for 32 years, and then for DeSantis Door Co. in Utica. He enjoyed golf, fishing and playing softball. He was also an avid NASCAR fan. Richard's grandchildren were the light of his life and he cherished the times spent with them. He loved to take them fishing and to sporting events. Richard was a communicant of St. Bernards Church. He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion, Clifford Fulmer Post 92 in Waterville for 15 years, and served as Chaplain for 10 years. Surviving are his mother, Lorna Torchia, of Waterville; children, Jennifer and David Marriott, of Oriskany Falls; and Nicholas J. Torchia, of Waterville; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Kathy Pare, of Oriskany Falls; Jane and Gene Boice, of Deansboro; three brothers and a sister-in-law, Anthony and Michele Torchia, of Clinton; David Torchia and Vincent Torchia, both of Waterville; his six beloved grandchildren, Ian, Candace, Mindy, Brylee, Victor and Vincent; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Joseph A. Torchia in 1998, and a brother, Steven E. Torchia in 2006. Services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday July 2, 2013 from the Kloster-Northrop & BentzFuneral Home, 210 E. Main St., Waterville, and at 10am at St. Bernards Church, Waterville, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will be in the Deansboro Cemetery. Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Monday from 4-8pm. Contributions in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society.
