Alfred J. Carnicelli
Utica
Alfred J. Carnicelli, 76, of Utica, formerly of Holland Patent, passed away on Monday, October 22, 2012, at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare, with his family and friends by his side. He was born on June 2, 1936, in Maryland, NY. He graduated from Schnevus High School in 1954 and entered the United States Air Force, where he proudly served his country for four years. He enrolled in Ithaca College and graduated in 1963 with a B.A. in Physical Therapy. He also obtained an M.S. in Public Health Administration from the University of North Carolina in 1969. Mr. Carnicelli was employed as a physical therapist at Faxton-Children's Hospital and by the Maryland State Health Department. He took a break from physical therapy to work in public health administration, and served as an administrator at Broadacres Nursing Home and Rome Memorial Hospital. Mr. Carnicelli was involved in the creation and development of the Oneida County Health Department. He resumed work as a physical therapist and worked for Rome DDSO and the Oneida/Herkimer County Health Departments until he retired in 2003. Al loved his work and the many clients and friends he had the opportunity to meet. Mr. Carnicelli enjoyed many hobbies, including: tennis, downhill skiing, windsurfing and racquetball. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends at his camp on Raquette Lake. He traveled frequently to Alaska and Florida to spend time with loved ones. Mr. Carnicelli is survived by a son, Kenneth A. Carnicelli, MN, and a daughter, Kimberly Carnicelli Dow, NY. He has four grandchildren, Jeremy Carnicelli, Karis Dow, Chloe Dow and Megan Dow, as well as many cherished nieces and nephews. He is survived by an ex-spouse, Patricia Carnicelli, and several siblings, Lena Chase, Helen Ackler, Mary Sparaco, Paul Carnicelli and Joseph Carnicelli. Al was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Julia DiBiagi Carnicelli, and several siblings, Primo Carnicelli, Philip Carnicelli, Laurence Carnicelli, Rosie Kreck and Josephine Norton. His family would like to express gratitude to the many wonderful friends, caregivers and physicians who cared for him over the years. Funeral services will be Thursday, 2:00 p.m., at Dimbleby, Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral Home, Forty Main Street, Whitesboro. Calling hours are Thursday from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral. Interment with full military honors will be Friday at Gerald B.H. Solomon, Saratoga National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial donations to ALS of Utica, NY. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Online expressions of sympathy may be left at: www.dfwefh.com
