Mrs. Anna Marie (Callahan) Capalupo, age 62, formerly of Utica, and most recently of Cape Vincent, NY, passed away on Sunday, May 5, 2013, at St. Peters Hospital, in Albany, NY after a courageous battle with Scleroderma. She was born in Utica, NY, on June 13, 1950, a daughter of the late Robert R. and Eleanor E. (Coletta) Callahan. Anna Marie was raised and educated in Utica, graduating from St. Francis De Sales High School. On October 11, 1969, in the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes in Utica, she was wed to Ralph A. Capalupo, Jr. The couple shared in a forty three year union filled with love and a strong devotion for each other and their family. Anna Marie began her work career with Commercial Travelers Mutual Insurance Company, located on Genesee Street in Utica. She later accepted a position with St. Elizabeth Hospital in the X-Ray department where she worked for several years. Lastly, Anna Marie was employed for almost 20 years with the UFCW District Union Local Ones Education, Safety, and Cultural Fund. She assisted thousands of students enabling them to afford college through the scholarship program and helped countless members continue their education and enhance their skills with on sponsored vocational programs. She was instrumental in the success of the unions golf tournament that raised millions of dollars for charity. A kind and supportive woman, Anna Marie had a genuine love for her family, who always came first, both in her mind and in her heart. She loved to cook and was happiest when her family and friends were all together enjoying good food and laughter. Holidays were treasured within the family and every Birthday was a true celebration. Surviving are her beloved husband, Ralph A. Capalupo, Jr., of Cape Vincent, NY; a daughter and son-in-law, Marea and Chad Kessler, of Newark, DE; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Ralph Capalupo III, of Cape Vincent, NY, and Paris and Courtney Capalupo, of Germantown, MD; and two adored grandchildren, Olivia Kessler, and Brecken Kessler. Also surviving are many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins. Anna Marie had wonderful friends that stood by her throughout her life experiences, some of which are, MaryGale Austin, Mary Cirillo, Liz and Bob Wendler, Jan and Jim Haskins, Sandy and Dale Petroff, Lucy and Steve Mazzola, Mary Lou Pietryka, Ruth Merrill, wonderful friends from her time at UFCW Local One and an extended and treasured family in Montreal, Canada. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert R. Bob Callahan in 2011 and Kevin M. Callahan in 2009. Also preceding her in death is her beloved sister-in-law, Joann Stuhlman-Callahan in 2001, and in-laws Phil in 2003 and Mary Ruggiero in 2007. Anna Maries family wishes to express their heart felt gratitude to the doctors, nurses, staff and technicians, of St. Peters Hospital in Albany. They would especially like to acknowledge the ICU Cardiac Care Unit Nurses and Doctors and the Occupational, Physical and Respiratory Therapists for the kindness, compassion and friendship that was shown to her and her family throughout her illness. In keeping with Anna Maries wishes, there will be no public visitation. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated on Friday morning at 10:00 at St. Anthony of Padua and St. Agnes Church in Utica. The Capalupo family will receive visitors in church, immediately following the funeral mass. Envelopes will be available at church. Interment will take place in St. Vincent of Paul Cemetery, in Cape Vincent, NY at the convenience of the family.
