Anthony E. Darcangelo, 54, Rome, passed away on Friday, March 23, 2012, in St. Luke's Hospital, surrounded by his loving family and friends. He was born on March 22, 1958, in Rome; a son of Albert "Butch" and Josephine DeMatteo Darcangelo. On July 10, 1982, in Apalachin, NY, he married Shelly K. Clark. He was a graduate of RFA class of 1976 and later received an Associate Degree from SUNY Canton in 1978, and a BA in SUNY Oswego in 1980. He has worked for Rome Strip Steel Co. for the past 20 years as a Customer Service Representative. Anthony has been a City of Rome Councilor of the 6th ward for over six years, having been re-elected for a new two year term in November 2011, and was the Majority Leader. He was community minded serving with the Rome Common Council, Chairman of the Board of the Rome Chamber of Commerce, Leadership Mohawk Valley Chamber Alliance, Chairman of the Board of the Rome Capitol Theatre, Rome Industrial Development Corp., Colonial Federal Credit Union, Mohawk Valley Edge, GLDC, Relay for Life, Salvation Army, AYSO and YMCA Soccer Coach, Boy Scouts, Rome Elks BPOE 96, Taste of Arts Festival, and the Rome Community Police Academy. Anthony, "Tony", was very active in the community, served and volunteered on many economic and civic boards in the Rome Community. Tony was a very selfless individual, always gave from his heart and was always there when he was needed. He worked tirelessly for his family, friends, and community. He will be greatly missed. Anthony is survived by his beloved family, his parents, Albert "Butch" and Josephine DeMatteo Darcangelo; his wife of 30 years, Shelly; a son, Anthony A. Darcangelo, of Rome; a sister and brother-in-law, Mary Jo and Jonathan Sears, of Rome, brothers and a sister-in-law, Donald and Kristen Darcangelo, of Rome, Dominick Darcangelo, of FL, and David and Diana Darcangelo, of FL; brothers, Albert Darcangelo, of Syracuse, and Paul Darcangelo, of Rome; eighteen special and beloved nieces and nephews; and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Aris Skojec, Kurt and Cathy Clark, Kenneth and Diane Clark, and Kim and Lisa Clark. The family would like to extend their appreciation to the entire staff of St. Luke's Hospital, Faxton Hospital, and Rome Hospital for their compassion and care of Anthony. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday morning at 10:30 at St. Peter's Church for a Mass of Christian Burial with the Rev. Philip Hearn officiating. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call on Monday(today) from 4 to 8 at the Bottini Funeral Home, 120 W. Embargo St., Rome.
