Bruce C. Townsend, 60, of Gorton Lake Road, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 12, 2012, at the Harding Nursing Home. Bruce was born on July 15, 1952, the son of Carl and Betty Brockett Townsend. He was raised on the family farm known as Summit Crest Farm on Paris Hill, and attended Sauquoit High School. On October 22, 1977, in Waterville, Bruce married Caroline "Carrie" Clark. He worked for over 37 years for the railroad retiring on August 3, 2012, an honored employee of CSX. Bruce was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, four wheeling and snowmobiling. Bruce is survived by his loving wife of 34 years Carrie; his father, Carl, of Waterville; two daughters, Kerry Townsend, of Waterville, and Jessie and her husband, Darren Treen, of Waterville; a brother, Jon and his wife, Katrina Townsend, of North Brookfield; three sisters, Jackie and her husband, Michael Jaquay, of Brookfield, Sue Tarbox, of Waterville, and Colleen and her husband Pete Stapleton, of Sherburne; his beloved grandchildren, Shane and Glenn Townsend, of Waterville, and Dillan and Caden Treen, of Waterville; numerous brothers and sisters- in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews. Bruce was predeceased by his mother, Betty; and his father and mother-in-law, Frederick and Agnes Clark. Bruce's family extends heartfelt thanks to Dr. Anthony Dasaro, of Oneida Healthcare for his professionalism, his compassion, and his guidance through this difficult time. A benefit previously planned, will still be held to assist with medical expenses. Bruce's family views this event as an opportunity to celebrate his life. Bruce's family would enjoy the support of family, friends and the community on Saturday, September 29, 2012, at the Clifford J. Fulmer Post 92, American Legion, located in Sangerfield, starting at 2:00 PM. Funeral services will be private, with interment in St. Bernard's Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Paul Funeral Home of Brookfield.

Our memories of Bruce is that he was always friendly and smiling. We moved to Summit Road in 1974 and Bruce and the entire Townsend family were great to know and live near.
