Carlyle "Joe" Cox passed away in Foley, AL, on May 28, 2013, from cancer. Joe was born in Utica, NY, on May 19, 1948, attended Notre Dame High School '66 and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering at Clarkson University, Potsdam, NY. He also attended Western State University College of Law in San Diego, earned a Master of Business Administration degree from the College of St. Thomas in Minnesota, and a Certificate for Financial Planning in Denver, CO. Joe served six years as a naval aviator and participated in the American evacuation of Vietnam in 1975. He was a crewmember at Braniff Airlines and Martin Aviation in California, and flew 30 accident-free years for Federal Express. Joe leaves his wife and partner of 43 years, Joanne Hill Cox, of Foley, AL. He also leaves a daughter, Rebecca, and son-in-law, Jason Kuri; a son, Scott; and three grandchildren, Lindsay and Owen Cox and Justin Kuri, all of Colorado. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Louisa Miller and Carlyle Augustus Cox, of Walker Road in Utica. Joe leaves two sisters, Nancy Cox Marafioti, of New York Mills, NY, and Carol Cox Peycke, of Cumberland, VA; his in-laws, Eleanor and John Hill, of Smith Hill Road, Utica; six sisters-in-law; five brothers-in-law; and eight nieces and nephews. Joe had a remarkable passion for life, was a life long student of history and finance, and he enjoyed traveling particularly on his Harley Davidson motorcycle. He resided in the Philippines and Hong Kong for nine years. Joe was especially proud of constructing his energy-efficient retirement home with his son. He leaves friends in Asia, Europe and the U.S. with memories of his celebration of life.
