Esther Gehringer Obituary

Esther T. Gehringer
Waterville
Esther T. Gehringer, 87, passed away on April 11, 2013, at Community Memorial Hospital in Hamilton. She was born on April 29, 1925, in Sauquoit to the late Walter A. and Martha Bowers Terns and was a 1945 graduate of Sauquoit Valley Central School On May 2, 1943, Esther and George Gus Gehringer were married in Sauquoit and subsequently relocated to MO. Gus passed away on March 11, 1987 after a loving union of almost 44 years. Prior to retiring in 1978, Esther worked for over 20 years as the Attendance Supervisor at the Sauquoit High School. She was a longtime member of the Union Presbyterian Church in Sauquoit (currently Three Steeples Church) where she served on the session, and also served on the session of the Waterville Presbyterian Church. Esther was instrumental in the establishing of the Sauquoit Valley Friends and Neighbors, was a member of the D.A.V. and was active in the Waterville Senior Citizens where she served as secretary. She is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Candy Hughes, of Whitesboro, Marcia and Robert Thomas, Sr., and Karen and Edward Wheeler, all of Waterville; twelve grandchildren, Michael Scott, James Scott, Leslie Scott Malo, Jennifer Hughes, Corinne Hughes, John Hughes, Alyson Hughes, Rob Thomas, Jr., Jason Thomas, Shawn Thomas, Edward (JR) Wheeler and Sara Baird; her brother and sister-in-law, Edward and Jytte Terns, of Phoenix, AZ; ten great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, David Gehringer and her daughter, Patricia (Dub) Gehringer. Calling hours will be Monday, April 15 from 4-7 at the Smith Funeral Home, 3022Oneida St., Sauquoit with funeral services following immediately at 7:00. Interment will be in Sauquoit Valley Cemetery. In Esthers memory, please consider donations to either Three Steeples Church or the Sauquoit Valley Friends and Neighbors. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
