Evelyn Bardrof Obituary

Evelyn V. Bardrof
Oriskany Falls
Evelyn V. Bardrof, 93, a life-long resident of Oriskany Falls until a recent move to Virginia, died May 19th, 2012. The only daughter of Barton and Mathilda Van Evera, Evelyn married Frank E. Bardrof, also of Oriskany Falls, in 1944. Following his death in 1951, Evelyn married Wendall Blanchard of Hamilton. Evelyn graduated from the University of Rochesters Eastman School of Music in 1941, having majored in violin performance. Until the 90s, she taught violin and piano to innumerable young musicians. Professionally, Evelyn was a long time member of the Utica Symphony, the Little Falls Orchestra, the Con Amore Orchestra and numerous string ensembles. She was presented with a lifetime award honoring her 66 years in the Utica Symphony. Evelyn was also the choral director and organist for the Oriskany Falls United Methodist Church. She held similar posts at the Waterville Methodist Church and the New London Methodist Church. Evelyn traveled the world, and there were very few places she hadnt visited. She was an avid bicyclist and continued exploring the countryside well into her 80s. She then exchanged the bike for a rugged wheelchair which she would push for miles on her daily jaunts. A fiercely independent woman, Evelyn was unique and remembered by all she encountered. She leaves a vibrant extended family: daughter, Leslie (Bardrof) Bain and her husband, Roger; son, Eric Bardrof and his wife, Wendy; and son, Craig Blanchard with wife, Charlotte. Grandchildren are Cassandra (Bain) Stopar, Laura (Bain) Prexta, Jessica Bardrof, Jennifer (Bardrof) McCauley, Julia Bardrof, Erin (Blanchard) Dorrance and Ashley Blanchard. Great-grandchildren are Matthew, Benjamin and Justin Stopar, Steven and David Prexta, Nathan McCauley and Vivian Dorrance. A Memorial Service will be held at 2 PM, Saturday, June 23rd, at the Oriskany Falls United Methodist Church followed by a reception. Solo violinist Michael Emory will be performing, assisted by symphony conductor Charles Schneider and former members of the Utica and Schenectady symphony orchestras. Please join her family as we celebrate her life with music, stories and much love. For further information, please contact Eric Bardrof at (757) 741-2083 or [email protected].

We spent many years taking piano lessons at your Moms house. Our special memories were the slide from the garage roof to the ground, her homemade root beer and cookies for the recitals (always on the hottest night in June)! And gazing at those beautiful old circus toys that lined the top of the living room book shelves. I went on to music school as a piano major, and have spent my career as a music educator, for which I know she would be proud. I was excused from Music Theory for all she taught me in my early years of piano. She was a marvelous, colorful, and extraordinary teacher with great patience. She enriched so many lives! Sorry to hear about your mother, I used to see her out on her bike all time. Sometimes as far away from O'Falls in Sherrill, NY.

Duffy,Leslie, and Craig,
I have lots of fond memories of your mother, she was very kind to me as I grew up next door to your family. She was talented, intelligent, and never boring.
You were lucky to have her for 93 years. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Your old friend,
Debra (Potts) Sullivan Grizzle
