Frederick J. DelMedico, Sr., 90, of Elm St., passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 26, 2013, at the Sitrin Health Care Facility in New Hartford. Born in Chadwicks, NY, on June 26, 1922, he was the son of the late Amedio and Elisa (Perin) DelMedico, and he attended Chadwicks schools. After school, Frederick went to CCC camp and joined the US Army - 11th Airborne Division. He was stationed in the South Pacific where he was awarded a Bronze Star. Following his honorable discharge, Frederick was employed with A.D. Julliard and later worked as a Supervisor for the General Electric Company in Utica, retiring after thirty-two years of service. On June 17, 1948, Frederick was united in marriage to the former Dorothy King at St. Anthony of Padua Church in Chadwicks. He was a member of the Sauquoit Creek Fish & Game Club, E.L. Clonan Post 1000, Last Man's Club and Willowvale Volunteer Fire Company in Chadwicks. He especially enjoyed hunting and fishing with family and friends. Frederick is survived by his beloved wife, Dorothy; one son and daughter-in-law, Frederick J. DelMedico, Jr., and his wife, Diane, of New Hartford; one sister, Gloria Owens, of Brookfield; two brothers, James DelMedico, of Chadwicks, and Albert DelMedico, of New Hartford; his grandchildren, Tim and Lori DelMedico, Scott and Melissa DelMedico, and Kevin DelMedico and his fiancee, Sheryl Superak; his close friends, Larry Bastien, Ted Kuhn, Glenn Kuhn and their families; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Frederick was predeceased by his sister, Norma Miller, and his brothers, Otto and "Bruno" DelMedico. Friends may call Wednesday from 5-8 PM at Smith Funeral Home, 3022 Oneida St., Sauquoit. His funeral will be held Thursday at 11:00 AM at Smith Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Utica. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be sent to St. Patrick's-St. Anthony's Church, 3364 Oneida St., Chadwicks, N.Y. 13319. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
