Jacqueline A. Nicholas, 82, passed away on November 12, 2012, at Faxton-St. Luke's Health Care in New Hartford, with her loving family by her side. She was born on October 9, 1930, in Utica, to the late John D. Newell and Viola Newell Zito. She had a special relationship with her stepfather, Anthony J. Zito. She was a graduate of Sauquoit Valley Central School. On November 6, 1954, Jackie was united in marriage with Calvin Nicholas in St. Anthony of Padua Church in Chadwicks. Cal and Jackie built their lives and raised their children together in their beloved home in the Sauquoit Valley. During her working career, she was employed with Horrocks Ibbotson in Utica, but her true passion was raising her family. Jackie was very civic minded and held leadership positions in various organizations, including E.L. Clonan Post 1000 Ladies Auxiliary, where she served as President, the Chadwicks P.T.A., also serving as President, was a Girl Scout leader, member of the Girl Scout Foothills Council, a member of Beta-Chi Sorority, a former member of the Utica Curling Club and a faithful member of St. Patricks-St. Anthonys Catholic Church with many years dedicated to the Altar Rosary Society of St. Anthony of Padua Church. Jackie's kindness touched the lives of countless people. She and Cal loved to travel and enjoyed their winters visiting Charleston, S.C., and summers visiting Cape Cod and Maine. Jackie was also a devout N.Y. Yankees fan. She is survived by her beloved husband of 58 years, Cal; her daughters, Terri Wadsworth, of Clinton, and Kelli Owens, of New Hartford; her son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey and June Nicholas, of Camas, WA; her grandchildren, who knew her as MEME, Sara Wadsworth and fiance, Steve Kozak, Garrett Owens and Samantha Owens; her niece, Donna and Joe Felitto, Jr., of Sauquoit, and their children, Joe Felitto, III, Nicole and Chris Cary and Nick Felitto; her sister-in-law, Shirley Crocetti, of Rome, NY; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, John Butch Newell, and her nephew, Jimmy Newell. Jackies Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, November 17, at 10:00 at St. Patrick's-St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Chadwicks. Interment will be in Sauquoit Valley Cemetery. Calling hours will be Friday from 4-7 at the Smith Funeral Home, 3022 Oneida St., Sauquoit. Her family would like to thank Faxton-St. Luke's Health Care I.C.U. for the excellent care they provided Jackie, especially Sarah, Kelly and the respiratory care team, especially Freid, and also to Drs.
