Joseph Michael Chubbuck, 22, of Rome, New York, joined our Lord on August 1, 2013 surrounded by his family. He was born March 11, 1991 in Rome, New York, the son of Joseph and Barbara (Balfoort) Chubbuck. Joseph was a 2009 graduate of Rome Catholic High and a senior at Utica College, where he was earning his BS degree in Physics. He was a member of the Army National Guard and had been accepted into Officer Candidate School until his Honorary Medical Discharge on May 10, 2013. Joseph was previously employed in the family business at H.F. Brown Machine Co., Inc and was also working on his Real Estate License. He enjoyed learning especially in the areas of mathematics, theoretical physics, philosophy, ancient history and engineering design. He spent time listening to classical music and reading the Bible. Joey was predeceased by his maternal grandfather, John J. Balfoort, of Oriskany. In addition to his parents, Joseph is survived by his sister, Alicia M. (Chubbuck) Fleming and her husband Brandon A. Fleming, of Utica, NY; his grandparents, Mary Lou and James Chubbuck, of Rome, NY and Margaret Balfoort, New York Mills, NY; along with several aunts, uncles and cousins. Joey wishes to acknowledge his two best friends since fifth grade Michael Zavaro and Kyle Sprock, along with fellow RCS classmates, Rachel Knight, David Hoole and Marissa Amuso, all of whom shared so many fond memories together. Joey and his family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Scott Maurer and his staff at the Childrens Hospital of Pittsburgh, oncology surgeon Dr. David Bartlett and hisTeam at UPMC Passavant Hospital, Oncologist Dr. Hussein Tawbi and his staff at Hillman Cancer Center in Pittsburgh, Dr. Robert Wells (oncologist) and Dr. Ralph Zinner (Targeted Therapy) of MD Andrson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, Drs Beth and Eric Bulawa of Rome, Dr. Moza of Rome, Mary Anne of Upstate Home Care, and Ed, Katy, and Janet of Hospice for all their care, support and compassion. Joey also wished to thank three special nurses (Angels) in his life from Passavant Hospital, Kim, Kristina, Ranjit and Linda. No words could express our gratitude to all those that kept Joey in their hearts and prayers. God Bless you all. Joseph was a very loving and self-less human being. He touched so many lives in the short time he lived and he will be deeply missed. Funeral will be held Tuesday August 6, 2013 1:15PM at the Nunn and Harper FuneralHome, Inc., 418 N. George Street, Rome and 2:00PM at St. Peters Church where a Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Philip A. Hearn. Interment St. Peters Cemetery.
