I was Leonard's veterinarian for many years. He and his wife took me into their home on many occasions and fed me lunch at their table. He was a rough tough guy and if he saw a weakness in you, watch out. One day as I approached the milk house to check some cows, he came out to greet me. He took my hand and shook it. I shook back, but he didn't let go. Then he started to squeeze harder. I looked at him and he had a sly grin on his face. So I squeezed back more.. Neither of us said a word for two minutes, then he dropped to his knees and let go. After that, I was his friend, and he never gave me a hard time again. I will always appreciate the fellowship and lunches he and his wife generously offered me. He taught me some lessons in life, and in veterinary medicine. Some times the school of hard knocks teaches you things that no university will ever be able to do. Rest in peace my friend. Dan Gilchrist

I always made a point to talk to Leonard when I saw him. I enjoyed our conversations and will miss seeing his big ol grin. I would like to express my sympathy to his family.
