Mrs. Mary E. (Dougherty) Fields, age 90, formerly of 1106 Conkling Ave., passed away on Thursday, August 28, 2014, at the St. Joseph Nursing Home with the support of her loving family. Born in Utica on March 22, 1924, Mary was the daughter of the late Francis F. and Mary Ruth (Marshall) Dougherty. Raised and educated locally, she was a graduate of T.R. Proctor High School/Class of 1942. On June 30, 1945, she married Albert D. Fields with whom she shared 53 years; their love and loyalty lived hand in hand with their emotional security and happiness. Albert passed away on January 16, 1999. Mary worked in her profession as bookkeeper for 35 years at the Utica Plumbing Supply Company. She was devoted to her family and her faith and was dearly loved by all whose lives she touched. She was a former parishioner of both St. Mary's Church on South St. and Historic Old St. John's Church where she devoted her time to the parish's bazaars and activities. Mary is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, William and Grace Fields of Marcy. Always close to her heart was the memory of her son, Michael Fields, who passed away on August 19, 1995. She also leaves her special grandchildren, Kathy Fields, United States Coast Guard stationed in Hawaii, Amanda Fields of Marcy, Michael S. Fields, Jr., of Lockport, NY, and also Tammy and Jack Ausman of Utica; a great-grandchild, Jack Ausman, Jr.; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and friends, Antoinette Hart, Connie Grimaldi, Don Sansone, and Mimi, her friend and fellow resident at the St. Joseph Nursing Home. The family extends sincere thanks to the nurses and staff of the St. Joseph Nursing Home and the Carmelite Sisters for the compassionate care rendered to Mary during her stay. Visitation will be held Monday morning from 9:30-10:30 at the St. Joseph Nursing Home Chapel, 2535 Genesee St. Marys funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Monday at 10:30 at the chapel immediately upon conclusion of visitation where her Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. Abe Esper. Interment will take place in St. Agnes Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
