Merritt "Bud" W. Bremer, Jr., a longtime Clinton resident, died September 20, 2013, at Faxton St. Luke's Healthcare surrounded by his wife and all of his children following an accident.
He was born in Utica on April 29, 1934, the son of Merritt W Bremer and Esthyr Filkins Bremer.
He Graduated from Utica College in 1956 where he was President of ADE Fraternity. On June 9, 1956 he married Carol Perry at St. Francis DeSales Church, Utica; a loving union of over 57 years. Bud was a Chemist at A. D. Julliard & Co. until 1959. Following the death of his father he took over the family business; C.H. Bremer Co, now known as Bremer's Wine & Liquor. He was active in Utica Kiwanis, Junior Chamber of Commerce, First President of the Convention Bureau, President of Clinton Youth Hockey, Knights of Columbus Council #189, The Retailers Alliance, The Skenandoa Club, and St. Mary's Church in Clinton.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Carol, of Clinton and his children and their spouses, Kevin (Jill), of West Chester, PA, Merritt III "Tim", of Clinton, NY, Gretchen LeFever (Donald) Watson, of Norfolk, VA, Cynthia (Paul) Smiegal, of Clinton, Sarah (Don) Harris, of Arlington, TX, Kurt (Elizabeth) Bremer, of Saratoga Springs, NY, and Eric Bremer, of Clinton; his cherished grandchildren, Rachel, Matthew and Lauren Bremer, Taylor and Merritt Bremer IV, Paris LeFever, Will, Caroline and Julia Smiegal, Victoria and Meredith Harris, Andrew, Gillian and Ben Bremer, Brian and Megan Bremer. Also survived by his sisters, Sally Sexton and Nancy Morehouse; and brothers, Charles (Lillian) and Richard (Marilyn) Bremer; sister-in-law, Suzanne Bremer; along with many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by a brother, Robert and in-laws, Craig Sexton, Henry Morehouse and Connie Bremer.
Happiest days were on the ski slopes, family parties around the pool, playing golf and greeting customers over the years. He leaves a hole in our hearts and will be dearly missed!
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial which will be held on Tuesday at 9:30am at St. Mary's Church, Clinton. Those that wish may call on Monday from 4 until 7 p.m. at the Heintz Funeral Service 10 East Park Row, Clinton. Burial will take place at the convenience of the family at St. Mary's Cemetery.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Brehaut, Dr. Soults and the Faxton St. Luke's Critical Care Unit for the excellent care he received.
