Mr. Nicholas R. Altieri, age 85, passed away on Wednesday, March 5, 2014, at the Villa Crest Nursing and Retirement Center in Manchester, New Hampshire, with the love and support of his family by his side. Born in Utica on September 18, 1928, Nicholas was the son of the late Benjamin and Mary Grace (Garafola) Altieri. Raised and educated locally, he was a graduate of Proctor High School. A proud veteran of the United States Navy, he honorably served his country during World War II on board the USS Randolph. On May 29, 1954, he married the former Mary E. Rosati with whom he shared 39 years prior to her passing on January 24, 1994. Together they resided in New Hartford and raised their family. During his working years, Nicholas was employed as a Sales Manager at Webb, Winan and Mahar Brothers mens clothing stores. Nicholas practiced his Catholic faith at St. John the Evangelist Church. Nicholas was a past member of the Utica Rotary. He was an avid golfer, enjoying time with his dear friends. Nicholas is survived by his daughter, Carolann Altieri and husband, Scott Casstevens, of New Hampshire; his son, Nicholas R. Altieri, Jr., of California; and his grandchildren, Anya Altieri and Benjamin Altieri. His extended family includes many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins; and in-laws, William Stamboly, Anthony and Mary Elizabeth Rosati, Rocco and Delores Rosati, and Percilia Rosati. He was predeceased by his sisters and brothers-in-laws, Mary and Samuel Ferraiola, Ann and Sam Gutman; and by his in-laws, James and Alice Delito, Chrisenzo Rosati, and most recently Adeline Stamboly. Visitation will be held Sunday from 2:00-5:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., the corner of Hammond Ave. Nicholas's funeral service and celebration of life will commence on Monday morning at 10:00 from the funeral home and at 11:00 at St. John the Evangelist Church, New Hartford, where his Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev.
