Philip D. Barnes, Sr.
Stockwell
Phil D. Barnes, Sr., 84, passed away peacefully, at his home, on Monday, August 20, 2012, with his wife and family by his side, at the family farm. Phil was born on November 4, 1927, at the home of his parent's farm in North Brookfield, to the late Raymond and Ruth Furner Barnes. He started school in North Brookfield and later graduated from Waterville High School. He married Vera Jane Brown on October 13, 1951, at St. Bernard's Church. In 1953, they purchased a dairy farm in Stockwell, where Phil continued the family tradition of farming and never truly retired. The Philip Barnes Farm will continue under the care of his sons, Phil Jr. and William Barnes. Phil leaves twenty-three grandchildren, Carrie Jo Chernoff Hicks, Mary Doyle Bailey, Renee Zombek, Russell Zombek, Mike Zombek, Stacy Zombek, Michaela Mancini, Sonya Carlson, Sarah Carlson, Owen Carlson, Sophie Carlson, Robert Barnes, Jason Barnes, James Barnes, Elizabeth Barnes, Dan Barnes, Samantha Barnes, Ethan Barnes, Alicia Barnes, Andrea Barnes, Madden Barnes, Paeton Barnes, and Morgan Barnes; and great-grandchildren, Jack Bailey, Hallie Hicks, and Mckenzie Hicks. Phil also leaves his "other son", Dan Stetson, of North Brookfield; and many relatives and friends, too numerous to mention. Phil is predeceased by his parents; grandson, Shannon Chernoff; brothers, Delmar Barnes, Lester Barnes, and Roger Barnes and his wife, Mary; brothers-in-law, John Ders and Francis O'Brien; nephews, Wayne Barnes and Patrick O'Brien; and a niece, Mary Barnes Kovalech. The family extends a special thanks to all the gang at Kling's Mills, Phil's physician, Dr. Francis Chabot, and his dedicated nurse, Donna. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday (today), August 22, from 3-7 p.m. at the family farm located at 366 Craigfoot Road, Stockwell. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at St. Bernard's Church, Waterville, at 11 a.m. Interment will be in St. Bernard's Cemetery. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Paul Funeral Home of Brookfield. In lieu of flowers, and in memory of Phil, please consider donations to Hospice and Palliative Care of New Hartford, or the Waterville Ambulance Corps. Envelopes will be available at the home.

Kat and family. some of my most fond memories as a child was at your farm. Whether it was swimming in the swim hole, jumping in the hay barn or riding Molly, Thinderbird, and the pinto in the fields. I remember your father working so hard and showing us how to milk cows. He was a great man and I want to express my deepest sympathy.
