Yorkville/Holland Patent
Phillip E. Burkart, Sr., 69, passed away January 24, 2013, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center with all of his family and close friends gathered around him. Come celebrate his life and share your memories with his family on Monday (today) from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at Dimbleby, Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral Home, FortyMain Street, Whitesboro. There will be a prayer service on Monday (today), 3:30 p.m., just prior to the visitation. Online expressions of sympathy may be left at: www.dfwefh.com

Phil Jr - I was deeply saddened to find out about loosing your dad, I only found out during the Winternationals coverage. I got my start in the speed equipment business at Phil's old shop & have always enjoyed stopping by & chatting when I'm in town. He was a good man & will be missed by all that knew him. Good luck in Phoenix this weekend, go a couple rounds for the old man!!

Phil JR. Sorry to about Phil Sr passing. We had a lot of good times, we go back to when he worked at Utica Gear and when he opened the shop behind the yorkville dinner.He let and helped me do some engine engine work at his shop. He was a good freind to me. I moved your family into the house in Holland Patent many years ago.I wish i got a chance to get back to see him. He will be in my thoughts forever. RIP OLD FREND.

I am so blown away to hear of Phil Sr's passing, I was in the same hospital the day earlier he had passed to have surgery myself, Phil was one of the nicest guys i have ever met, As a boy living in Yorkville His shop Burkart Automotive one one of my Daily Press paper stops and i used to go there and ride bikes with his son Phil Jr, My eyes are tearing up writing this and would like to send my sincere blessing to Phil Jr and his family!! God Bless The Burkart Family!! God Has His Shop Manager, And The Best One Ever!!

Phil Jr. & family, so sorry for your loss. Phil Sr.helped me so many times with my old hot rods,gave me parts & info on what to use. When i got my NHRA license on a Harley drag bike he was there to shake my hand & congratulate me.His compassion & persistance inspired me to try harder everytime i went to the track.he will be missed.will keep you all in our prayers.

So sorry to hear of Phil's passing. I worked part time for him evenings on Erie St. back in the 70's. He was always smiling and helped me in several ways through some tough times.

Dear Phill Jr, as you know, I had the honor of working with your dad in the mid 70's and still live by the lessons he tought me.He was a legend to me,and many others, bigger than life when I was only 11 years old and looked in the back window of the shop to see him working on the "Home Brew"dragster.I lost my dad only 10 days ago so I know your pain.I will visit soon.RIP my great teacher and friend.

Phil's "driving force" infleunce on motorsports here and throughout the Northeast, raising a family including a 3-time NHRA funny car eliminator winning son, and successful engine building business have provided us all with many great memories locally, regionally and nationally. Phil appreciated the finer things in life, and never missed an MWPAI Sidewalk Art Show.Phil was gentlemanly and courteous...accommodating to a fault. I am sure young Phil will carry on in his footsteps in sport and at the business.
My condolences to the family and friends for his loss...I will certainly miss his cheerfulness. Onward !

I'd be hard pressed to find a better, lifelong friend than Phil. He was so full of life and kept me going through the toughest of times. I'll always cherish our time together and miss his biweekly calls. We had a 50+ year relationship that will never end. What a great loss for all of us.
