Mrs. Pirina Perry (De Condo) Altieri, age 87, passed away on Monday, November 4, 2013 at the Faxton-St. Lukes Healthcare Center. Although her passing was untimely and unexpected, her family was by her side. Born in Utica on April 2, 1926, Pirina was the daughter of the late Giuseppe and Vincenza (Zinicola) De Condo. Raised and educated locally, she was a graduate of T.R. Proctor High School/Class of 1944. On September 11, 1954 she married John J. Altieri, Jr. with whom she shared 55 years. Together they worked diligently in their own unique ways to blend their love for one another and parenting skills to provide for their family. Her beloved John passed away on June 30, 2010. Perry was a clerical worker and a Certified Stenographer beginning her work career at the Griffiss Air Force Base. She then held a position at the New York State Unemployment Department as a Claims clerk, and subsequently was Secretary to the Dean of Students at M.V.C.C. , retiring in 1991. Perry possessed a humble and unassuming nature, always placing the needs of her loved ones before her own. She was a born caretaker, credited with tending to her siblings and family. Perry had a subtle wit, a refined sense of humor, and a self-reliant, independent frame of mind which was admired, especially by her children. She leaves a legacy of love, loyalty, and willpower. Above anything else, it was Perrys family that provided her contentment in life. Adding to her domestic happiness, she and her husband were great hosts for any entertainment in their home which was always open to family and friends. She looked forward to her monthly luncheon with co-workers and dear friends, something she carried on to this very time. Her pastime pursuits included floral gardening, attending to her home, cooking for Sunday dinners and holidays. Some of her fondest memories were shared while shopping with her girlfriend, Janice Monescalchi, with whom she shared a sisterhood of over 40 years; they could depend on each other for anything. She was a communicant of St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church where she worshipped for many years. Perry is survived by her son, Dr. John J. Altieri of Florida; her daughters and sons-in-law, Cathy and Joseph Ducato, and Patricia and Michael Dispirito, all of Utica; and her grandson, David Dispirito, her one and only. She also leaves her brothers and sister-in-law, Gene and Virginia De Condo of Whitesboro, and Victor De Condo of Utica; her cherished nieces and nephews, Robert De Condo, Joseph and Francine De Condo, Rosemary and Howard Demick, David and Lynn De Condo, Geno De Condo, Jeannine and Craig Reynolds, Donald De Condo, Cindy and Jim Fernsler, Michael and Sharon Calamusa, Diana Dacquino, and adopted niece, Gigi Ruddy; great-nieces, great-nephews, and sister-in-law Josephine Dacquino. Perry enjoyed the company and love of her friends, Janice and Tony Monescalchi, and Joe Grimaldi. She was predeceased by her infant brother, Louis De Condo; and her siblings and their spouses, Anthony J. Deacon and Theresa De Condo, Anne and John Belmont, Joseph and Louise De Condo, Pia De Condo, and Catherine and Victor Calamusa; her brother-in-law, Thomas Dacquino; and her nephew, Joseph J. Dacquino. The family expresses heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Scott Brehaut for his kind heart, compassion, honesty, and professional guidance in treating Perry; thanks also to the Faxton-St. Lukes Healthcare Center Emergency Medicine Department, and the Critical Care Unit for their tireless efforts and vigilance. Perrys children wish to personally thank their family and friends for their support and presence during this difficult time; and Deacon Bill Dischiavo for his blessings.
