Sister Regina Loughlin, Daughter of Charity, Utica, N.Y., Native, Teacher and Principal, died on December 29, 2012, at 92 years of age. A resident of the Daughters' senior residence in Emmitsburg, she celebrated 75 years of vocation in 2012. Born in Utica, N.Y., on February 9, 1920, Sister Regina was one of four children born to David and Catherine (McCann) Loughlin. She was baptized Rita Elizabeth Loughlin. After graduating from Utica Catholic Academy, Sister Regina entered the Daughters' Community in December of 1937. She earned her B.S. in English at St. Joseph College, Emmitsburg, in 1953. In 1966, she completed her M.A. in French at Rivier College, Nashua, N.H. Sister Regina served as teacher and principal in schools in Baltimore, Md. (1939); Washington, D.C., (1939-1955); Youngstown, Ohio (1956-1958); Troy, N.Y. (1961-1963); Wheaton, Md. (1977-1979); and Martinsburg, W.V. (1981-1982). She served as Administrator at the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Shrine (1982-1988); as Assistant Seminary Directress (1955-1956 and 1958-1961) and Director of Postulants (1963-1969); as Secretary at the Daughters' Paris Motherhouse (1969 to 1975); and in Pastoral Care at Providence Hospital in Washington, D.C. (1988-2003). In 2003, Sister Regina joined the Ministry of Prayer in Emmitsburg, Md. Sister Regina is survived by her sister, Patricia Essel, of Central Square, N.Y.; she was preceded in death by her brother, Francis (Bud) Loughlin, and her sister, Katherine Joan Dodge.
