Rethea Storey, formerly of Westmoreland, died Tuesday, February 26, 2013, at the age of 98. Since 2005, she has lived at the Lutheran Home in Clinton. Born in Rome, NY, on December 6, 1914, she received her education at Rome Free Academy. In August of 1934, she married Edwin Storey and together they owned and operated the family farm for more than sixty years. Throughout her life, she enjoyed cooking, especially baking what her children, nieces and nephews called "rubber cookies". In addition, she tended a productive garden which yielded many delicious meals. In her spare time, she created crocheted items, knitted and sewn garments over the course of her lifetime. She is survived by three children, Jean (Richard) Moose, of Leicester, Edwin (Priscilla) Storey, of Westmoreland, and Betty (Robert) Ryan, of Fineview. Rethea was grandmother to nine children and great-grandmother to 22. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 1, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at Owens-Pavlot & Rogers Funeral Service, Inc., 35 College Street, Clinton. All are invited to call Friday from 10:00-11:00 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will be in Westmoreland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Rethea's memory to the Stevens-Swan Humane Society, 5664 Horatio St., Utica, NY 13502.
