Robert J. Bick, 86, of Utica, died peacefully, at his home, on March 5, 2014, with his family at his side, after a brief illness. Bob was born in Utica, September 14, 1927, the son of the late Henry J. and Elizabeth (Heintz) Bick. He was raised and educated in Utica and was a graduate of UFA. After school, he proudly served his country in the US Army. On June 10, 1950, at St. Joseph's Church, Utica, Bob was married to Mary F. Boehlert. Mrs. Bick passed away in 2010. For 73 years, Bob had been actively working as an owner, operator and treasurer of the Bick and Heintz Garage, Inc., of Utica, until the time of his illness. Bob was a member of St. Joseph and St. Patrick Church, where he served as an usher, trustee, a member of the parish counsel, and a full time volunteer. He was a 70 year member of the Knights of St. John Commandry #41, a former member of the American Legion, and a member of the Kayuta Lake Imp. Association. Bob built his own camp on Kayuta Lake, where he kept improving it over the years, for his families summer enjoyment. Bob was a hard-working self-made man who could fix anything and with perfection. He was a kind and generous man who was loved by all who knew him. Bob is survived by his three children and their spouses, Barbara and David DeBlois, of Sauquoit, Thomas and Annette Bick, of Frankfort, and Robert A. and Laura Bick, of Deerfield; five grandchildren, Mellisa (Chris) Abdoo, of Balston Spa, Alan (Pamela) Bick, of Schuyler, Vincenza Bick, of Frankfort, Andrew Bick, of Albany, and Alexandra Bick, of Deerfield; three great-grandchildren, Danielle and Elizabeth Abdoo, of Balston Spa, and Anna Bick, of Frankfort. He is also survived by his sister, Marie Hammersmith, of Kayuta Lake; his in-laws , Patricia Bick, JoAnne Barter, Robert and Elaine Boehlert, Patricia Berg, and Jack and Sherrie Boehlert; and many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Besides his wife and parents, Bob was predeceased by four brothers, Charles (Chuck), Henry (Hank), Francis and Edward Bick. The family would like to offer a thank you to Drs. LaGrant, Culver, Arastu and Razia for all their care to Bob over the years and a special thanks to the "Angels" who cared for Bob in his final days, including Angela, Diana, Lanna, Liz and Patty. Mr. Bick's Funeral will be held Monday, March 10, 2014, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Joseph and St. Patrick Church, Utica, where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. His Rite of Burial and Committal will be at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Yorkville. Calling hours at the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica, will be held from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m., Sunday afternoon.
