Mr. Ronald J. "Ron" Darling, age 68, of New York Mills, passed away on Saturday, December 27, 2014, at the DeMay Living Center in Newark, NY, with the love and support of his family. Born in Utica on August 3, 1946, Ronald was the son of the late Charles and Mildred (Skinion) Darling. Raised and educated locally, he was a graduate of Utica Free Academy and also attended M.V.C.C. for two years. He completed his college coursework at Syracuse University where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. A proud veteran of the United States Navy, Ron honorably served his country from 1966-1970. On May 24, 1969, he married the former Nancy Fiorillo with whom he shared a devoted union of 46 years. Nancy's love for Ron was immeasurable, and she was his angel. The blessing of their beautiful family was their greatest grace and source of joy. Ron worked in his profession as a roads and bridges Civil Engineer for the New York State Department of Transportation, a career that spanned 28 years until his retirement in 1993. A successful entrepreneur and a multi-talented man, Ron was the owner and president of Universal Striping in Clinton, formerly R & R Striping, a business he operated with his son, Ron. A beloved husband, family man, and father, Ron loved life and was very dedicated to his work and his family above all. He took great pride in his children and taught them to put forth their best efforts in life and look for the best in people. He supported all their activities, especially in the sport of skiing. He was a member of the Mohawk Valley Corvette Club, the Corvette Club of America, and the Ski Club. He upheld his Catholic creed at his home parish, the Church of the Blessed Sacrament. Ron is survived by his cherished wife, Nancy; his children and their families, Renee and Ernesto Caballero of Belgium, Dawn and Michael Muench of Rochester, Ronald J. Darling and Lauren Heaney of Charlotte, NC, and Denise and David Wojcik of Rock Hill, SC; and his grandchildren, Tyler, Allie; Anthony, Caitlin; David, Nick; and Elle. He will also be missed by his sisters and brother-in-law, Carol Moot of Munsville, NY, Beverly and Steve Farley of Paoli, PA, and Sandra Darling of FL; his brother and sister-in-law, Thomas and Sharon Darling of Sauquoit; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, sister-in-law, Philomena Phyllis Martin of NY Mills, and his best friend, Mike Biagina of FL. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 9:00-12:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South Street, corner of Hammond Ave. In lieu of floral offerings, please consider a memorial contribution of choice; envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
