Robert Langworthy
Waterville
Robert Sherman Langworthy, 94, of Waterville, passed away after a brief illness on Saturday, November 24, 2012, at St. Elizabeths Medical Center, Utica. He was born February 5, 1918, in Brookfield, a son of Fred Clark and Althea Edwina Clarke Langworthy. Bob graduated from Brookfield Central School and Oswego Normal School with a teaching degree in Industrial Arts. He taught in Maryland and then the Utica Public Schools until his retirement in 1968. A proud veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, he served his country as an airplane electrician/mechanic during WW II. On July 4, 1942, he married Wilma Alene Welch in Leonardsville. Their loving union continued for almost 75 years until she predeceased him on March 7, 2012. While he will be remembered for his quiet and gentle nature, and his wonderful stories, Bob was most well-known for his love of working with wood. He could design and build anything from a micro-mini camper to a piece of fine furniture, or a carefully carved bird, or a rocking horse for his grandchildren. His impeccable craftsmanship could be depended on when something needed to be rebuilt, repaired or refurbished, and he was always there to lend a hand. He will be missed and remembered every time a family member looks at something he lovingly made especially for them. Bob was an active and devoted member of the Second Brookfield Seventh Day Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. Surviving are his son and daughter-in-law, Roy Sherwin Langworthy and Kathleen Terry Langworthy, of Waterville; daughter and son-in-law, Roberta Langworthy Wratten and Kingsley Dennison Wratten, of Leonardsville; two grandchildren, Kelly Denise Langworthy and Aaron Kingsley Wratten; and a great-grandson, Michael Krupsky. He was predeceased by two sisters, Althea Morris and Frances Palmer; and a brother, Christopher Langworthy. The family will receive friends at the Kloster-Northrop & Bentz Funeral Home, 210 East Main St., Waterville, on Tuesday (today), November 27, 2012, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, November 28, 2012, from the Baptist Church, Beaver Creek Rd., Brookfield, with Pastor Dave Zoeckler officiating. Interment with military honors will be in Crown Hill Memorial Park, Rt. 12, Clinton (Town of Kirkland), on Thursday, November 29, 2012, at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, his family has requested donations to Tribute Program, PO Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148-0142. His family wants to extend a heartfelt Thank You to the Special Care Unit at St. Elizabeths Medical Center, especially Katie, Kyle, Nancy and Ethel, for their compassionate care and kindness to Bob and his family.
