Mrs. Ruth H. Rubinstein, 88, of New Hartford, passed away peacefully, March 24, 2013, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Utica. She was born on June 27, 1924, in Berlin, Germany, to the late James S. and Gertrude Joel Breslauer, and was educated in Berlin. On January 30, 1944, she married Oscar Rubinstein. Mr. Rubinstein passed away March 1, 1971. Ruth had immigrated to Johannesburg, South Africa, where she had resided for forty two years. Following there, Ruth then resided in Santa Monica, CA, San Mateo, CA, and New Hartford for the past thirty six years. In her own words, "she was a tough old bird!" Her fluency in three languages was a great source of pride for her. Ruth was a member of Temple Beth El, Utica, and was an avid reader. She will be sadly missed by her daughter and son-in-law, Helen and Neville Barnett; her son, Denis Rubinstein; her granddaughters and their husbands, Karin and Michael Savitz and Nicole and Michael Pollak. Ruth will also be dearly missed by her great-grandchildren, Joel, Ezra and Aviva Savitz. Her graveside service will be held 10 a.m., Friday, March 29, 2013, in the House of Israel Cemetery, Wood Road, Whitesboro, with Rabbi Ronald Kopelman of Temple Beth El officiating. Ruth's arrangements are with Jacobson-Pizer Funeral Chapel, Inc., 1123 Court Street, Utica. www.jacobsonpizer chapel.com
