Obituary Condolences

Janice (Abounader)
Piacente
UTICA
Mrs. Janice J. (Abounader) Piacente, age 65, passed peacefully into the arms of the Lord on Tuesday, June 24, 2014, in the comfort of her home with her loved ones by her side. Born in Utica on May 31, 1949, Janice was the daughter of Gloria (Karaze) Abounader and the late Azez J. Ace Abounader. Raised and educated locally, she graduated from Utica Catholic Academy/Class of 1967. She furthered her education at Utica College, where she graduated in 1972 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology. At one time, she was married to Frank M. Piacente, and to that relationship came the blessing of their adored daughter and a friendship that remained in their hearts until her last day. Janice began her career as a teacher at St. Agnes Catholic Grammar School. The majority of her working years were spent as an aesthetician and nail technician, operating her own business at Klippers on Seneca Turnpike until her recent illness. Janice loved people and she connected with many souls. Janices love and memory will live on because of her strength and beliefs that guided her life. Her greatest grace was to have lived life with simplicity and style, to have honored those who touched her heart, and to have left an everlasting remembrance filled with love and laughter. Janices personal spirituality was the core and guiding light of her life. She was comfortable and at peace when she attended her home parish, St. Louis Gonzaga Church, where she served as a Lector at one time. Janice is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Danielle J. and Benjamin D. Price of New Mexico. Always close to her heart was the memory of her son, James Michael Piacente, who preceded her in death in January of 1983. She will also remain in the hearts of her mother, Gloria; her sister and brother-in-law, Mary M. and Larry Schecter of FL; her brother and sister-in-law, James and Lucretia Abounader of Webster, NY; her nieces and nephews, Noah and Kelli Racich, Brooke (Abounader) Sofinowski, Jason Reape, and Michael and Jenna Reape; several aunts, including Agnes Rasi, who was also her godmother, many cousins, and her cherished friends, Joseph Gorea, and Marlene and Al Richie. The family extends heartfelt appreciation to the Faxton-St. Lukes Healthcare Center 6th Floor nurses and staff who embraced Janice with much care and respect. Thanks also to the wonderful staff of the Outpatient Infusion Center at the Regional Cancer Center who encouraged and inspired her. When Janice was cared for in her home by family and the personnel of Hospice & Palliative Care, it was rendered with gentle hands and the greatest dignity. The family honored and commemorated Janices life at her bedside. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her Memorial funeral service and Celebration of Life which will commence on Friday morning at 11:00 at St. Louis Gonzaga Church where her Divine Liturgy of the Faithful Departed will be celebrated. The family will receive visitors at the conclusion of the service. In lieu of floral offerings, memorial contributions in the form of donations may be made to the Abraham House or St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital; envelopes will be available at the service. She will be laid to rest along side her son at Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Online tributes at: www.EannaceFuneralHome.com
